One of my neighbors has a ton of cats. We live in the country so we have the room...These are cats that have wandered up and found a home with her. She feeds them and does her best to get them spayed neutered. She is a stay at home mom and I suggested she start a cat rescue to try to get funding to help feed and alter these cats. The only thing is I have no idea how to start this, but she is running out of funds and loves the cats and cannot take in any more due to finances. She took a kitty I found that almost became Dobersnacks... I took her a big bag of food for taking the kitty...and she fell in love with it, but I'd like to do more to help her. Any ideas?

Even though your friend is doing her best, to me it sounds like she's on her wya to becoming a collector. No person should have so many animals that they are having trouble providing basic care for them. If they are, it's too many animals.
The basic premise of a rescue operates under the notion that they are awlays working to find new homes for the animals they take in. A collector rescues cats under the best of intentions, but does little, if anything to rehome them, and thus keeps adding more and more and more. I am fraid that if your friend is given more money, this would merely give them opportunity to get even more cats.. and require more money, to house more cats... it's a vicious cycle.
I know what you'e saying, but she knows any new ones would have to be re homed and she's ok with that. Actually she'd like to rehome most of the ones she has, but she doesn't know how to go about it...
I have a few suggestions. You could put up a local add where it wouldn't cost much or at all. Put adds on the net to find them homes, put pictures in food stores, or local stores that wouldn't mind you doing that. Take pictures of each of the cat, just to have on hand incase someone asks for a cat and wants to see pictures. I hope this helps. But let her know to stop spaying those cats, maybe she could keep on the females together in one room and the males in another room that would keep her from spending to much money. She could also run an add for obtaining funds to help spay the cats, then she doesn't have to spend all of her money. Just something to think about.
