I am a bit hesitant on the continue use of Frontline flea and tick and came across this product SENTRY® Natural Defense Natural Flea & Tick. Has anyone tried this stuff and if so how does it work.
This is the list of ingredients: Active ingredients: peppermint oil 3%, cinnamon oil 4.5%, lemon grass oil 4.5%, clove oil 5%, thyme oil 5%, 2-phenethyl propionate 5%. Other ingredients (vanillin, isopropyl myristate) 73%
It smelled GREAT and I have heard several of these ingredients are good for repelling fleas and tick.
One of the big reasons people go with Frontline Plus or the other products is the fact that they last for a month or more, guaranteed. I wonder about the lasting effects of an all-natural product, but I'm curious to see the results as well.
For me personally I've never tried a natural flea and tick remedy that worked. The key here is remedy. I do believe there is a difference between trying to get rid of an existing flea problem (IE, finding a remedy) and deterring fleas and ticks before they get a real infestation going.
I can believe that such natural flea controls like this one *may* work to deter fleas on some dogs, probably not all, but I strongly doubt such things would work on ticks, which are about 100x tougher than a flea. And they carry diseases which end up causing more problems in the long run.
What I'm saying is, it may be worth a shot, though that seems to have chemicals in it as well, such 2-phenethyl propionate 5%, and isopropyl myristate. It also is worth noting that in general 'natural products' like this, especially pet related ones, are largely unregulated, so can make whatever claims they want.
