Hi all, I just picked up Tiny Red from the airport today. He is such a doll! The best looking Chi I have ever seen! He is so small, less than a pound! I couldn't be happier! I love Red Jewel Kennels. They have the most wonderful dogs, and is a great and reputable breeder. I do have one question. How do I introduce her to my mother's dogs? She is living with me and has three dogs! All are quite a bit larger than Tiny Red. One is a mutt, and is around 50 pounds. He is at my door whining constantly. I am so afraid he will hurt the poor baby. Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks
Lindy did you go to their kennel? Did you see their kennel? I have been there. Read some of the post on the board about them and you will see that they are far from reputable breeder. They are a puppy mill!!!! I hope you puppy is healthy and good luck with him
Good luck with your pup. We have one that's only about 12 weeks old and we have an 80 lb golden and a hyper pug. It just took a little time, and you have to watch them very carefully. I can leave her on the floor with the golden because he is very laid back, just have to make sure he doesn't accidently step on her. I just recently put her down with the pug and they just sniffed each other and went their own ways. Just make sure you hold her when you first introduce them and do it gradually, but remember that they could hurt her even by accident. I don't put mine down in the same room unless I'm right there and really able to watch constantly. I don't know anything about the kennel you got her from so I have no opinion on that, but as with any new animal my suggestion would be take her to a reputable vet and make sure she is healthy right away. Mine is not that small we got her at about 9 or 10 weeks and she was already 2 lbs. She went to the vet today for her second set of shots and has gained a pound already. How old is yours? Again, good luck, I hope everything goes well. I have to admit, I have never been a fan of small dogs, but this one is my daughter's and I have really fallen for her. She's very quiet, she hasn't barked yet, and just wants to be next to whomever is with her and she's happy. She's done fine alone during the day and everything has gone great so far. I'm very happy we ended up getting her after all.
They are certainly not a puppy mill!!! She is a wonderful breeder, and I wouldn't ever get a pup from anyone else! Tiny Red is very healthy, smart, and show quality. Tiny Red is nine weeks old. I took him to the vet today, and they said he is one of the healthiest, and handsome Chihuahuas tey have seen in a long time. So, as far as the the kennel I got him from, I feel they are exellent!
I looked over the site pretty throughly. I did not notice any champions listed. I may have missed them, but a breeder who breeds show quailty puppy would have all the champions proudly posted on their site. For the price the pups were going I don't know that they would be of show quailty either. I have seen show quality chis going for quite a bit more than $650. There are quite a few different breeds at this site, too. It seems that it is a puppy mill. http://www.mosquitonet.com/~dwest/ If you look at this site you will only see chis. None are for sale at this time, but there are champions bragged about all over the place. This is typical of a show quality breeder.
Well, she breeds dogs as pets. But, every once in a while she gets a show quality pup in the bunch, since all of her dogs do fit breed standard very well. Thanks for the congrats guys. He is a little angel. Already knows his name!
Anyone who breeds dogs as "pets" is not breeding to better the bred they are breeding to make money!!!! That is what backyard breeders and puppy mills are all about. Breeding is not about throwing two dogs together just because they have papers and see what you get. Also if you don't mind me asking, who are your puppy"s parents? Are they on the website? Just curious. Dpnt get me wrong I saw the picture of your puppy and he is very very cute, and I wish you the best of luck with him.
"Anyone who breeds dogs as "pets" is not breeding to better the bred they are breeding to make money!!!!" Totally right! If anyone breeds, it should be for show quality unless they are breeding pets for just one litter, and they already have homes. Also, your statement about how she breeds just pets and gets a show quality one "once in awhile"....That doesn't sound good. Happy Trails with your puppy!
She does not breed to make money! She breeds because she loves dogs! She is not a bcakyeard breeder or a puppymill! You guys need to back off! I'm the one with the puppy, and I'm the one who has been talking to her for a long time! I'm the one that should know! And she definatley does not just throw two dogs together! His mother is Red Jewel Cricket. She is a beautiful Chihuahua. Breeding just for show is fine, but breeding for pet is fine too. Not all people want to have show dogs, and not all dogs want to be shown! Showing is not what dogs are all about!
Lindy, you say that you have been talking to her for along time, but have you actually been to her kennel? I have and it is horific!!!!!!! You say she is breeding because she loves dogs right? Well if she loves them so much then why doesnt she do genetic testing, offer a better guarantee, and stick to one breed and work on making that breed better? I am so sorry that this women deceived you but I have been to her kennel and I wouldn't steer my worst enemy in her direction. If you don't believe that I have been there I can give you her address. I live in NC. Also the number she posts on her website is a cell number....she doesnt give out her home phone number.
"Not all dogs want to be shown" Hmmm....interesting statement. How would a dog know what showing is unless they have done it before? People should only breed to better the breed, even if they don't show. Lindy_Lou, you can argue all that you want, but why don't you think about what we say.
Sorry I don't have all the answers but look at this link it appers to have some good stuff http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/intro.htm and here is another that says about the same thing http://www.scvhumane.org/behavior/dog/dog_dog.htm What do you think about it Chili Pepper would this be a good way to do this?
