Just curious. Bella doesn't bark yet, and Macy does not bark at all. Bella's littermates are quite noisy. Is is possible that she never learns to bark??? Wishful thinking on my part. She is 7 weeks old now!
That is so funny you would mention that. I was just thinking about her this afternoon when I was on and wondering if she had barked yet. When they do its almost like when your baby says his or her first word. LOL She may surprise you one of these days soon. I wish I could sometimes tape mines mouths. Schnauzers are real yuppy and talk all the time. Mandy will follow me through the house with her wah, wah, wah talk.
Growing up my mom had a small dog (mix breed) and it NEVER barked! Literally this dog was a mute. For years and years this dog was silent. Then suddenly one day it made a bit of a choking bark sound and surprised itself. The dog tried it again and again and was suddenly barking! Boy was it proud of itself and my mom (and family) had such a great laugh. They couldn't believe their ears - neither could the dog.
The dog finally did quiet down but still enjoyed the occasional bark! They figured the dog just didn't know it could do it.
It can take a while for dogs to figure out how to bark, Lol. The second day we bought Max home he let out a little bark, and was surprised with himself. And then the next day he began to do it more regularly, like when people came to the door. He was 3 months old then. He was one of the quiet ones in the pet store, lol. I'm sure Bella will bark , just wait your turn ;]
I order a lot of stuff from Foster&Smith. Don't know if they would be high on the X-pen. Really you could go to Walmart and get one for about as cheap as you can anywhere else. (crate) Petsmart and Petco are probably going to be higher than Walmart, and they are really just as good. I bought a big crate at Walmart for alot cheaper than it would have been there, and like I said it was just as good.
Georgie did not bark much at all when we first got her at 8 weeks. Jackson barked quite a bit at 8 weeks old. Now they both bark and I think Jackson is barking less often and Georgie barks more. She tries to boss us around some with her barking letting us know about it if we go out without her. She also barks more when playing than Jackson.
I do think the more active you keep them and the less bored they are, the less they bark.
You're having to raise Bella by herself, right? She's not with the other littermates? Maybe they are making noises because they are with other dogs, and Bella is by herself? I don't know..just a guess. She'll probably start barking when all of them start playing together.
Yeah, sometimes they don't know they can bark and some dogs/breeds don't bark that often.
My Golden Retriever, Kelsey, didn't bark until she was 10 weeks old...she'd growl, howl, and wine but that was it.
I still remember the day when she did bark though...I was out back playing soccer with her and she just barked at the ball...the look on her face was priceless, she was so shocked that it came out of her mouth...I just laughed. She still doesn't bark that much though, just the occasional bark.
