I was still steaming when she left - she may not come back (oops)!
She was all excited about her new "shi-zit-zu" (her pronunciation) that she is getting soon. It is coming to her from a breeder. She is most excited that it is brown and she has always wanted a brown one. She currently has 2 black and white ones. Not bad so far?
She can't wait to get this 9 year old in August so she can BREED her!!! WHAT? I said, "Are you kidding me?" She said that the breeder told her that you can breed them right up until they are 15 years old! I told her that unless she wants to kill her, she would be crazy to breed a 9 year old dog (no matter what she called it).
Ok, now the funny part - my favorite vet stopped in just after she left (while I was still steaming) and I told her exactly what the woman had said. She just about choked then realized that this woman is one of her clients! She said that she will explain to this woman that you do NOT breed a 9 year old dog. I truly hope the woman listens to the vet.
thats too old to breed, imo. males can be used for breeding at an older age than females, but why would anyone want to put the strain on a female that is on the verge of being considered elderly ? some people are clueless or just dont care.
That is horrible. The dog is way too old to risk a pregnancy especially in the care of a fool. Someone who knows so little about dogs getting a dog just to breed more is not a good thing. Even if it were a young, healthy dog the world does not need more foolish, uneducated breeders who have no clue what they are doing. I hope she at least takes care of the dogs she already has and the vet can talk some sense into her.
I was holding my chi in the store (pet store) and this husband and wife came up and asked if it was a boy since they had a year old female that is in heat now that is only 1lb 2oz and they want to breed it! BREED IT! I was like um no this is a girl, but you don't want to breed a chihuahua that small. They did not even hear me and were like do you know where we can find a 1lb chihuahua boy? If not a 1lb one, one that is no bigger than 4lbs! They would actually consider breeding this poor little girl to a 4lb male! How many litters have you had? They asked me. I was like NONE! They said don't you want to make your money back since you buy these dogs for so much money? Then they said that is what we are going to do. I was so upset I mean a 1lb dog? They are going to kill her! I told them they need to talk to their vet because their vet would tell them the same thing. I don't think it is a good idea. That you also don't buy a dog to make your money back. The woman gave me a dirty look and they just walked away! I was like OMG you idiots!
