We are planning on going camping next week and we have gotten most everything covered. I have a 50 ft. tie out for Chi-Ching(Chow) and we bought him a soft crate that folds up for traveling(LOVE it!), we have a storage food and water container, doggy pick up bags, Treats, bones, kong, play yard, brush, smell good spray for after he gets that "wet dog" smell. We have a few toys that we bought, frisbee, and some stuffed toys that he loves but I would like to find some good water toys, Does anyone have any ideas? Also, since this is the first real camping trip I have taken in about 7 years, am I forgetting anything??
Also, somehow I have managed to have a dog who is scared of the dark. He sleeps in the kitchen with the microwave light on and he has gotten to the point where if it is off he will not sleep at all. He will whine all night long. We have no problem leaving the light on for him, as it is also for my daughters to see their way in the middle of the night, but I am concerned with how he will be camping. We are in a motorhome, so I am thinking about bringing a nightlight for him, (It would be for the kids too) It is a "bad" habit, but one we kind of like too. So it is not something I want to try and retrain. I just want him to not be scared in the motorhome. Wow. Rereading this, I can not believe what I am saying. Spoiled dog!
yippee vacation!! i've been looking for cool water toys as we just taught bud to swim. thee was a dog at the beach that has an oblong tennis ball thing with a rope attached for the human to throw. another had a launcher for a tennis ball that threw the ball at least fifty feet. does chinger swim or does he just play? before bud was comfortable enough to swim he just liked to play fetch and get a little wet, but not really go in.
There is this frisbee thingy that is fabric (its a dog frisbee) I"ve seen it at petco/petsmart and its got an inner tub around the edge. Its hot pink and hot lime green. That might float? No idea, I've never tried it in the water... Haven't seen you in a while, hello/welcome back again!
Don't forget the first-aid kit for dogs and kids. And in the kit make sure you have the most super duper deluxe pair of tweezers you can find. I use that first-aid item more than any other item in the kit.
Don't know much about water toys but I am sure I have seen some at PetSmart. I do have question for you, "will you be going out in a boat and taking your dog with you?" if so how about a lifejacket for him! have fun camping, we have a tent up in our backyard right drying out, our son and a friend just got back from a short camp trip poor boys, they left the window flap open and they and everything inside got soaked!
Actually, we do have a life jacket for him. It stays on the boat in case we ever need it. My husband thought I was crazy but I don't care[insert exclamation mark - my 'shift' button isn't working right now] Great idea though
Everything seems covered to me. I dont know where you're camping, but a quick little check list, outside of everything you have for the pup (really, I think you covered it all on that end hehe):
Bug spray Sun block Always an extra pair of shoes, ya never know Sunglasses Rain gear (umbrellas, ponchos, etc) Make sure you have good water access for drinking Hot weather AND cold weather clothes Can openers In my case, wine openers ;) Lotion Calamine lotion (sp im sure) Finger nail clippers (weird, but useful for lots, and I hate having a crooked nail after I break one off, drives me bonkers) Matches/lighter/what have you Eye drops Extra batteries Flashlight
That's about the basics of what we used to forget when we'd camp, and have learned our lessons on ;) Have a GREAT time!!!
Thanks. I wouldn't have remembered eye drops. We ALWAYS forget batteries. Looks like we may be going Monday or Tuesday. I am so excited. I wish I could put an exclamation mark...Ha. DD spilled water on the keyboard and we thought we got it all cleaned up...have to take it apart again and try and fix that. It is funny but you don't realize how often you use it. I can't even send an e-mail because I have no 'at' sign. Oh, well......Thanks for all the help.....if anyone else has any other ideas, let me know.
