I have a 3 month old Chihuahua and 3 kids ages 5, 3, and 7 months. My boxer is wonderful with them all. However he does get a little too excited sometimes but all and all a great dog with other dogs and kids.
Boxers are great, I have a cross and she is the best ever. A close friend of mine has a purebred and this dog plays with the children although they can be quite energetic, the boxer seems to be quite a bit calmer around the younger children. I know that when my dog sees little kids she immediately lays down and waits to be pet. I never trained her to do this. Another great pet is a beagle, they have lots of energy, so playing with kids would be great. They are also pack dogs and get along really well with other dogs. Maybe I'm buyist because my dog is a mix of these two, but I do alot of research on dog breeds and in my opinion boxers are really great family dogs.
I'd agree they do make good pets. They are generally very sweet with children and fine with other pets. Require min grooming and don't seem to shed too bad. I've had a few and enjoyed them very much. Some do tend to get excited, act like puppies for life but thats just one thing I like about them.
Thanks every one. I love them, and the litter in the wagon is probably the nicest litter over all that I have ever had. Dozer (jumping) is my heart.
Tortoise- Are you nuts? You sound like my nasty mother-in-law. There are a few breeds that people have on here--actually most, because I too am dog racist--that I think are 'ugly', but I would NEVER say that because it is offensive. Very offensive.
For future reference that is close to saying some one's kids are ugly, ya just don't do it....say they aren't for you.
Cocker Spaniels...............a no no with kids. We had a Boxer for 9 years.........he was awesome. His only down side was he thought he was a lap dog. Also ended up having $1,300 worth of eye surgery because he kept getting ulcers on his eyes and the regular vet just couldn't help us anymore so off we went to an Opthamologist.............it was very sad, we lost Webster the day we lost my mother. Guess if your going to not have a dog the best time is when your grieving for your mother.........the blow was much easier.............but after about 5 months everything hit me. Are they ugly.....well, you can't call them beautiful, but when you own one you think they are georgous. I now own the "monkey faced dog", Brussels Griffon.......and everywhere we go everyone falls in love with her. And she has a real pushed in face with her nose between her eyes, and real lips..........now how's that for a dog............and she is BEAUTIFUL. She actually models for Petsmart and I am sure you've seen her posters in all their stores nationwide.
