Gosh its rainy out this morning and pretty steady. My pup is no way going out in that. what do i do when it rains out? force him to go pee in the rain? He just sits there on the porch and wont leave, ( its covered) Hes almost 8 months and i do still have a potty pad down just in case but only when im gone and he really hasnt used it since ive been taking him outside, Ive always wondered what you are suppose to do when it rains?? any one know ??
so, i still make him go out? what if he just wont go off the porch/ keep trying? i guess if hes gotta go hes going to go off the porch or just pee on my capret. Im sure that older dogs are trained well and hurry to do there business and back but puppys are still learning and i think the rain scares him from wanting to go off the porch. But i hope something he out grows.
Update.. he just peed on a cardboard box my husband has laying in the basement, ( its all tore open so i guess it looks like a big potty pad lol) do i stay with my potty training routine or let this go? i guess hes kinda good since he did it on the cardboard...
If you put him on a leash, he will go with you. None of my dogs will just go out in the rain by themselves - we leave leashes by the door for that reason. We have a huge dog run right off the back door but I have to go with them.
If you let him go in the house, you are confusing him by letting him think it is ok. I would really scrub that area that he went so he doesn't think it is his new bathroom.
Mine will go when they really have to and run right back to the door. My golden is too funny. He will not leave the door if there is any chance he thinks that he's getting back in. So for him I have to walk to the window where he can't see me. Then he'll run out and go and come back to the door and I can let him in.
Don't give up. You'll send the wrong message and your pup will think it's ok to go in the house again. I know it can be a pain. I have a spot in my backyard that will not grow grass no matter what. Just one spot. But...as soon as it rains and it's muddy that's where they all want to walk, lol. Towels, a mop, whatever you need. Good luck!
My dog will scratch at the door to go outside then scratch to come back in always. When I walk her she will pull me when she needs to go. She is very prissy. She likes her privacy when she does her business.
I did keep taking him out as i do every morning- he wouldnt leave the porch, i do walk with him every time i take him out. I dont just sit there, But i was asking because he wouldnt leave the porch and just sat there. of coarse not liking the rain- and i always stay out side with him for as long as it takes for him to go which in the mornigs are pretty quick. But he wasnt giving in and going off the porch. of coarse i clean his accidents very well. The outside potty is still new to him it hasnt been a month yet that weve moved and started just going out side instead of the pads, so im sure hes going to have a few accidents. He is doing well tho better then i thought he would i thought he would be going on the pads and just playing out side but he goes potty every time. and has only peed on his pad a few times. ( i still keep one by the front door when im at work) but he holds it till i get back but being not even a month yet im unsure if he is looking for his pad and then im confusing him by not weaning the pad out all toegether.
so im suppose to drag him around on a leash in the rain? because that is what it would come down to, he wasnt budging off that porch. it of coarse was a very heavy rain, not a mist or a sprinkle were talking very heavy. and it was this way for hours. When it did let up and it was a sprinkle i did walk with him in the rain and he did follow me and he did go, believe me he was all muddy and needed a bath after that..lol im trying, i just didnt know what you were suppose to do in the rain. hes only almost 8 months and very been in the rain before. so maybe that scares him. guess he will get use to it.
Your dog is 7 months old he should be able to handle it by now. Max was the same way but I just stuck him in his pen and if he had to go he had to go. You can stand outside there with an umbrella but you can't baby the dog. It should go in whatever the weather, at 7 months or you will just confuse the house training method. My trainer told me to put Max out there in rain, or snow. And I do.
well we've established the fact that no one's dog LIKES to go out in the rain,my Dobes included.Gee does anyone's dog LIKE to go out in the rain? Mine were real hard to train to go out in the rain,(BTW what IS rain, we haven't had any) but I also had to boot them out and then walk away from the door, and then when they realise what the scam is, they do it and run for the door, knowing I won't open it until they function....
I take Mia out in the rain. I have a very large umbrella, and it covers both Mia and myself. Then when we go back in, I wrap him up in a towel to warm up, and to dry him off. Mia is 10 lbs, so a small dog also. I have learned it doesnt harm them one bit to go out in the rain. Good luck :)
Merphy loves the rain...actually all water except the pool! I let him out in the rain, to play in the sprinklers, and the hose, and he's still alive and well. You gotta remember, you are the boss, so you call the shots. If you want him to pee on your carpet, then by all means let him. But, if you want him to pee outside, then he's gonna have to face the rain sooner or later. Who knows, he may like it. Merphy was afraid of all water until he discovered that if he stands right in front of the sprinkler, it will squirt his face and he can drink it.
My sibes are just as happy to run in the rain as any other weather. Getting them in is usually the problem. They won't potty in the house unless severly ignored about going out. Housetraining is a tedious job, but once they learn the house is their den, they will ask to go out no matter the weather (or time of night *yawn*)
