When I first had Max I bought him a larger crate. Bearing in mind he was a 3 pound pom, I also used wee-wee pads and his bed. But I later figured out that wasn't helping house training at all. So, my trainer told me to use the divider that came with the crate to limit him so much that he could only stand up and turn around (comfortably of course). This blends in with the whole house training method, a dog should go outside and not excrete/urinate in their own living quarters (crate). So first off, I'd suggest getting the divider in there as soon as possible, it really helps the housebreaking method, if the dog is taken out enough. You should leave a blankie, bed and a few bones in there for your pup to sleep with. Hope I helped!
