I am so sick of people asking me how many pets I have and when I tell them they act like I am crazy! They will ask me why I have so many dogs. They want to know if I am running a shelter or a petting zoo. I know that some people are just joking when they say these things but it is really getting on my nerves. Does this happen to other people with multiple pet households? If so what do you say to these people?
Happens to me all the time and I know where you are coming from. I have had people come over to visit and never come back.....no loss on my part. They will say things like "something is wrong with you having all of these animals". I just laugh it off. All of my dogs are rescues except for the one that I am getting in three weeks. All are fixed and utd on all shots and stay in my house. I just caulk it up to having a big heart and know that if I didn't have them then they may not be alive. I wouldn't change the amount of them, or give up any of them for anything.
People do that to me when I say, "I have 4 kids." I can see how you would be annoyed. I get annoyed when people argue with me about having 4 kids. Then, I say I have 2 dogs and their eyes pop out. I have a husband, too....they don't seem very conserned with that, but he is more work than all the rest combined LOL
SuperMommy you are crazy! LOL And the other day I had a family member comment that I was really into this "animal thing". I couldnt go to a family function because I was helping with a doggie transport. I dont know maybe I am just in really bad mood. But these type of people drive me crazy!
I got a new puppie 4 weeks ago, a femal lab. Today the breeder called because she new that I had been thinking about getting 2 puppies at the time. She offered the sister to this puppy to me today and I have mix feelings. I love my new puppy and I am afraid that she will loos interest in the family, (I have 3 children and a husband) and the puppy we have is so happy now. The children can't seem to understand my concerns. what has the experince been with other pet owners who have gotten 2 puppies. I need help deciding.
I think labs are smart. It only2 1/2 weeks to housbreak the puppie. I used kennel training when iI was not home and kept her on the tile when I was home. Most of all I am afraid of is that (after I read the stuff on the web)my puppy will only be interest in playing with her sister instead of us. I have a great bond with her. She plays games, fetches, and cuddles with us. Will she be more interested in the sister than us?
LOL, I've been hounded by the same kinds of remarks all my life. As we get older though all we have now is 3 dogs, total weight less than 60 pounds, 1 parakeet......... and 21 snakes. Talk about people not coming back over to your home a second time!!
Dear Styhan, I only have one dog, but yes, people can be funny about the multiple pet thing. Most people who have animals nowadays, only get them for their children. They just don't understand us animal lovers. I don't see what is wrong with having a lot of dogs. For one, it helps to socialize them, and two, they have a companion when you are away. People can be very cruel with their multiple pet jokes, they just don't understand. It would get on my nerves to, can very easily hurt your feelings, or fluster you. I do not get any petting zoo, or other multiple pet jokes, but I do get Chihuahua jokes often. People will tell me if I wanted a rat, I just should have gone to the petstore. They will also say that Chihuahuas aren't real dogs, and are just rodents in disguise. This sickens me, and gets me very angry! I just tell them that I love Chihuahuas, and that they are a dog, not a rodent, and a wonderful dog at that. You should just tell these people that true animal lovers have more than one pet, and if they were an animal lover, they would never make fun of someone else's pet's living arragements. Best of Luck, LindyLou
I have this same thing, multiple pets, multiple kids and one husband, who like supermommy said is more work than the rest. I just heard the petting zoo joke the other day. It annoys me, but I just laugh it off and they tend to shut up. One more joke about our bunnies being stew though.....
I just welcomed my second puppy into our house almost 3 weeks ago. What a pleaseure. Double the joy! They love eachother, and they are happy as can be paling around, playing and laying together. Two is alot of work but sooo worth it!
I own 2 dogs and some people call me crazy. Well, there are people who have 2 children, I don't call them crazy. The way I look at it is that its my life and I choose to live it the way I want and if I want 2 dogs, I'm going to have 2 dogs. When people start paying my bills and taking care of my dogs 24/7 then they can say something.
We get the Chihuahua jokes all the time: "What's the matter, couldn't afford a whole dog" or the usual ignorant people who think all Chihuahuas are yappy and ankle biters. But, it really doesn't matter what people say. We have 3 Chihuahuas and 3 stray (we got them neutered/spayed so I guess they are ours) cats. I do not ask them to pay to feed them or pay their Vet bills so I just ignore comments. We also raised our 5 kids and I got a lot of comments about that too.
LOl dont get two puppies at the same time, wait till the first pup is all trained and bonded to you! I get the are you insane attitude all the time first when I say I have 3 kids, theen casually add and 5 Doberman Pinshers. Needless to say the inlaws stay away pretty well :) And supermom you are sooo right the hubby is much more work . Marcia Jasinski Owned by Angus(Latvia), Kleopatra(Russia), Ginger(USA) and BellaDonna (USA) plus 3 kids There is no such thing as a bad tracking Day :)
Hi everyone - I get the "you're crazy" line all the time! Perhaps it is because I have a six month Great Dane and a year old cat (my fiance's) in an apartment that defines the words teeny tiny. I just tell people that I fell in love (which I sooo did - even though I tried hard not to at first) and thank goodness there is a park across the street. In my opinion, you're not crazy if you have the means and the drive to take care of each and every one of your pets and show them the love and attention they need and deserve.
