Gastrointestinal problems (including diarrhea) are listed as a possible side effect of the drug but if it seems to be helping him with the pain I'd continue using it. Some of the other side effects are pretty serious so if it isn't helping him let the vet know right away so he can prescribe something else. He's a pretty old dog and whatever you can do to make his quality of life better is worth trying. My life would be so much easier if we had tile floors, lol, I envy you for that.
It is prescribed for pain relief as well as for arthritis. These are some of the side effects: stomach pain, gas or bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, weakness, painful or frequent urination, chills and upset stomach. There are also some more serious side effects such as red blood in stools, black and tarry stools, itching, skin rash and blurred vision. Hope this helps!
