I am looking for a small and quiet dog for my apartment. I have surfed around a bit and am thinking about a Pug or an English Toy Spaniel. They both seem to be quite loving and from what I understand neither are very "yappy". I have heard that Pugs can snore rather loudly at times. Is that ever a problem with the Spaniels? I live in Kansas. I want to avoid places like puppy mills and was wondering if anyone knows a nice, clean and safe breeder in the Wichita, Ks area.
My sister, has 3 pugs. They have made her great indoor dogs. She lives in a town house. But if you don't have the time to really take care of them, such as cleaning out there wrinkles..then that could be a problem. As for the snoreing, its not so bad. I find it rather cute. As for Pug breeders in KS..I Don't know of any,but =] good luck.
Not sure what breed is right for you, but I looked at the breeders website. I'd avoid them. Health guarantee is no good, it's only 1 year and doesn't state which defects it covers. You want at LEAST a 2 year health guarantee. The breeding dogs are not tested against genetic defects (at least it doesnt state it on the website). Find another breeder.
Keep in mind, anyone can tell you a certain breed of dog is quiet. But in reality it depends on their personality.

Please, whoever posted this website a few days ago forgive me for continuing the post.
This website has a test that will help you rank breeds of dogs for your particular needs. http://www.glowdog.com/bestdog/ I would take the test and then research the top 5.
I have only had mixed breed small dogs so I'm not much help. I have always loved Boston Terriers, Cairn Terriers, Papillons (sp) and Pomeranians. I do not know however how suitable they would be. I'm sure if you look hard enough you will find the dog for you.
Boston Terriers make great house dogs, too. Mine rarely bark, but to alert me that a stranger is near. And, then they only bark once. They shed very little, are medium active, and make great family pets. If you like short nosed dogs, check some out. Just make sure you ask lots of questions of the breeder that you choose from.
Eternal, I live in Kansas as well... ever heard of Pittsburg, KS? I live near there. I do know a good breeder of Shihtzus and Poodles. Then I know a breeder of Chihuahuas and Yorkies. :) I live in a decent size apartment and I have a Shih Tzu/Toy Poodle mix about a year old.. (perfect apartment dog, minimal shedding.. and always willing to just crash and nap) then I have a purebred Shih Tzu puppy. They both fit well into this environment.
