This is something that bothers me and wonder how others deal. I walk my dog at least twice a day. Some people don't and let theirs run. This is especially true at our camp. Not alot of people there so they let their dogs loose. There is a bike trail that runs infront of the camps. My kids and I use it often, either to ride bikes or walk. I take my dog on the walks and have had dogs come up to us. They are friendly usually, but don't want to risk an attack. How do I chase the dog away.I don't want to not walk and lose the freedom of using the trail. I would understand if it got loose, but they are just let out to run and don't stay in the yard when we approach.
You could try a water gun or spray bottle but, personally, I'd rather have the loose dogs consider me and mine friends than enemies. This is especially true if you are in a secluded area away from other people and can't count on help from the owners.
There are a few dogs in my neighborhood that are out off leash. They are supposed to be in the front yard, but they never stay when I walk past with my dog. I've been chased by a growling pitbull and a black lab. I tell you, if their owners hadn't come out to call them back, those dogs would have met my foot before they got to me or my dog.
This is a very big problem where I am too. I will not take my dogs out by myself anymore because of this specific problem. It makes me really angry because inconsiderate people are keeping me from enjoying my own neighborhood. It's really a shame. Our animal control is a huge joke too.
Take a spray bottle but I take it a step further, I carry extra leashes and then drop the dogs off at the pound on my way home! I got tired of coming home with dogs daily! The owners get fined and are forced to buy a license here as well if they don't show the dog has a better chance at a good home!
