been a while since i have been on but i just got a new chi pup and she has terrible dry skin. I have tried just about everything i can think of from putting olive oil in her food to conditioners. if anybody has any other ideas they would be greatly appreciated
Hi I give my chi (and the others) a gel cap of flax seed oil in her food every morning. She thinks it's a treat. It was recommended to me here years ago for my pug's skin problems. It works wonders for the skin and their coats. I have also seen people here than use the oil and put it on thier food, or even break open the capsule and put the oil on the food. It was easier for me to just throw it in the food bowl. Of course I'm lucky that mine seem to like it for some reason. I just bought a new bottle yesterday at walmart. I paid a little under $8 for 200 gel caps.
My Grandmother actually reccomended Flaxseed oil a LONG time ago....actually, for both her Dogs AND for herself! She's sprinkle flax seeds all over her morning cereal...Not sure what it did for her though? But her dog's coats were amazing.
my chi had the same thing a few months ago. the vet reccomended the flaxseed oil, as well as washing the extra dry areas with warm water and soap every night. None of that worked for me and it turned out she had a skin infection. the antibiotics took care of it. the oatmeal shampoo is really good, its what I use on her now.
