Hi! I am looking for advice on how to start a breeding business. What breeds of dogs do you reccomend? Of course I want to make as much money as possible, so I am looking for a hearty breed who can birth easily, and has large litters. I know next to nothing about the process. It would be an added bonus if those large litters could fetch top dollar as well. Are there special requirements to selling litters to the pet stores? How much space and how many kennels do I need? How large of a breeding stock should I start with? How old do the bitches need to be? How many litters can they have in one year before incurring health problems? Is it ok to breed siblings. My mom says you can breed father and daughter, and mother and son? I'm wondering if that is an old wives tale, or if it comes from our southern upbringing. thanks!
Oh come on, you don't know this stuff already? Get yourself a couple labs and poodles. from the pet store. If you get them older they will discount them cause they want to get rid of them. Put them in some kennels with that wire bottom so the poop comes out, who cares about their paws hurting, they are just dogs. I'd get about 20 or so dogs. You can breed each female starting with her first heat... hey nature gave her that heat cycle, put it to use. First time do some pure labs, next time do the labradoodles. Oh boy you will be rolling in the money. Don't forget to feed them the walmart brand food, whatever is cheapest.
Yeah! Sounds like a great idea!
And the sad part is alot of people probably do exactly that.....

Yes, it's obviously a joke. Although myself, I get tired enough hearing it from people who really mean it. I don't need to read pages about it from people making fun of it, too. It gets old after a while.
Well, you are headed in the right direction with some goooood advice. Your mom is right. Down here in the south we breed anything that stands still long enough. Why my breeder had 80 schnauzers one day and the next she had changed over to doxies. Little did she know she could have had big bucks on a designer breed, schnaudoxs. Would have sold for alot let me tell ya. What the heck, they are just dogs and if you don't like'em, sell'em and start with a poodle. People will buy anything with a poodle attached. Hope that big yard holds alot because sounds like you are getting ready to be in business. Good luck, and let us know here?
