I was just thinking about this today. I've had Max since he was three months old, and he had been neutered already. He's always just widened his back legs and then just peed, he doesn't actually squat like a girl. He doesn't lift his leg, he lifts it for like a second if he's relieving himself for a while but he's never cocked his leg up a tree or anything. I don't have a problem with it at all, I was just curious. Is it normal for males to be this way? Is it because of his operation? If he smells another dogs pee on a tree he'll circle and pee in his own little way close to the tree, lol. Anyone else experienced this?
Yup, I have a 3 1/2 nuetered male that does that and I am happy as ever about it. No marking the house, furniture, Gramma when she does not move fast enough and any small children are not firing targets. He shows no dirty male habits and keeps the stream going to the ground and not on the side of the chair.
Get happy my friend, lifting a leg is not all it is cracked up to be.
Yes it is normal for them. It can be normal for unneutered males as well, some of my don't lift their legs when they potty and they are not neutered. Its actually nice because then they are not peeing on everything.

all the male dogs i have had have been neutered. some of them still lifted their legs and some did not. i had read a long time ago that leg lifting is actually taught to younger dogs by older male dogs. i have my doubts that this is true because the older male we had when we got thunder never lifted his leg once but thunder does. sometimes he is lazy and wont but for the most part he always does.
