My 3-month old Maltipoo has been scratching frequently since we brought her home at 8 weeks of age. I've tried bathing her in Oatmeal/Aloe shampoo and I apply "Hot Spot Itch Relief Spray" to the spots that she scratches. This product contains Tea Tree Oil, Camomile and Aloe Vera. She has no fleas or any visible cause for the itching. I also applied Frontline Plus. The itching seems to intensify after our walks. She's probably allergic to grass, but I hate to deny her. She pees in the grass and likes to lay down in the grass. Also, her eyes tear and I have to wipe the staining frequently throughout the day.
What else can I do to help her itching problem other than keeping her out of the grass? Is there a more effective product I can use?
the tearing is an inherant breed problem with both poodles and maltese, so it would mak sence that a cross would also have the problem. Some say that beet in their food can further problems with it, I have heard of something called angel eyes, but I have no idea if it actually works.
When we brought Mason home he would scratch like crazy. Sounds just like your puppy. It seemed like all he did was scratch himself. I felt so bad for him. I'm sure if you scroll through the forum pretty far back you might even see some of my threads.
Anyway, after much discussion and advice from people on TP I switched his food to Natural Balance Brown Rice and Venison. He is doing so much better now and his coat is softer. He still scratches periodically which I think is from the grass and the outside elements, but it is noticeably (sp?) better.
Okay, this information might be irrelevant to you. I went back to re-read your thred and you said her scratching is on her ears and back. Mason scratched his stomach like crazy.
Hope this helps.

I have a Multipoo too. He has drops for his eyes. from the doctor. and we put baggies on his feet when he goes out. You know the sandwich baggies you fold over with a flap? put two together and put them on each foot. then we put scotch tape around that. fold the end over so you can get them off. it works great.. No readness or itching. I wash him once a week with childrens tearless shampoo from the health food store. Wash his face good with only tearless shampoo. It all helps. anything else I can help anyone with ,let me know. I am Murphie's mom
