Last night I was playing with Charley's ears and I noticed that on the outer rim of his ear flap is a notch with another piece of skin flapped over the notch. So I looked at the other ear... there's one on that ear too...
So I checked Quincy's... guess what? Apparently it's normal for it to be there...
So my question is... does anyone know what the purpose of it is?
I know this is a stupid question... but when I notice something that I had never seen before -I can't help but wonder what it does... LOL!
I just looked at Mollies ears. It looks like the extra fabric, next to the seam. Maybe God forgot to trim it? LOL, I don't know what it is. If you blow in it, the dogs ears twitch. LOL. I'm such a pest. When the cat sits on my lap, I ever so lightly blow on the fur in her ear and watch her ears twitch. K, I'm amused easily.
Wow - this is a great game question. I called my vet and spoke to the tech. She had no idea what it is for or why. Now that I made her curious, she's going to ask the vet. We should have some kind of answer today.
Well, I believe it's like the darts in your blouses. If you don't know what darts are, ask your grandmother! Anyway, it's there so the ear can fold down over itself, like when the dog puts it's ears back, so there's no crease.
When my mini schnauzer's were tiny, my kids were worried about that pocket. Their's looked like someone had cut it with a pair of scissors, but since both of them looked the same, they believed me that it was supposed to be there. I used to play with my cats, it was such a soft spot. I've wondered too what it was for, so I don't think you're crazy at all for asking.
