Curly ........ an aproximately 4-6 year old maltese put in a small crate and left out behind a local bar in the pouring rain. local animal control and rescue group was called out to pick him up. curly was then brought to the local animal hopsital for evaluation and treatment. curly was so severely matted that a mat of hair actually cut straight through his skin and muscle to the point where one lonely tendon is the only thing keeping the lower portion of his leg attached to the upper part. it is so severly rotted that the only treatment that can be done is amputating it at hopefully just the elbow, may have to go up as high as the shoulder.
a scalpel blade was the only thing able to be used to cut through the rest of his matted body. a #40 SURGICAL clipper blade could not get through it . now poor curly is bald and pink ..... has just fur left on his face and feet =(
WHY I LOVE ANIMALS :
curly was allowed out of his cage today to get some exercise in the treatment room of the animal hospital. he ate his food right away and then stood by the back door asking to be let out to potty. when he was finished pottying he came back inside and sat on the lap of one of the technicians and just hung out there for an hour. had plenty of kisses to go around for everyone. as much pain as this poor little dog must be in not once did he cry or bite or complain. totally relaxed and content in his new surroundings. by his attitude alone it is really hard to understand why someone would dump a perfectly amiable little dog in the back of a bar.
so friday little curly's leg comes off and hopefully he will be adopted into a home where he will get the care and love he so deserves.
How terrible! Poor little guy.... I don't know how anyone could neglect or abandon an animal... my dogs are my babies....
Can I ask a really stupid question? I've never had a dog that had hair that became matted or even that was prone to it... so i don't understand how a matt could cut through the leg... could someone explain that to me?
Hope he is placed with someone that really deserves him. Unconditonal love is something human beings need to learn about. That poor little baby. I hope whoever did this to him gets what they deserve too.
I don't understand how people can be sooooo cruel...if they don't want the dog then take it to the Humane Society...I still don't get why people just don't do that...at least there they have a chance at a life that a dog should have...
i just dont get it. i see that stuff all the time on animal planet and hear all the excuses as to why the pets are neglected. some to the point of seriously neglected. you can not tell me that the owners dont know there is a problem. if people are going to have dogs that require grooming, then for gods sake...groom them ! either take them to a groomer, or do it yourself, but just do it. everyone should do a weekly body check on their dogs. i do mine. i check for any lumps or unusual skin changes. cancer in dogs, just like in humans, can be nipped in the bud at early detection. when a dog is matted to the point of losing a limb, thats abuse. animals look to the owner to love, care and feed them. if we truly love our pets then thats a given that we do those things. when i see animals in that state and hear the owners go on about how much they "love " their pets and blah blah, i just dont buy it. and its heartbreaking to see any animal in that kind of state.
