I was just looking for hints on house breaking/eating habits/food/or anything you have to offer. This dog is adoreable...a 2 month old named harvey. My girlfriend and i bought him 2 days ago and he is our first dog. I don't think we will really kill him, but i want to give him the best home possible...thanks!
Oh my where to start. Lol. I posted this in another thread so I just copied and pasted it here for you.
I have house broken over five dogs now and find the best way for me was to have the puppy in a crate/ puppy pen when you can’t keep an eye on him. When the pup is out of the cage keep him in the room with you. When you see him/her getting ready to do potty on the floor I clapped my hands and said his/her name to get his attention, or rattle a can with pennies in it. Jump up and pick up the pup and take him/her outside and say go potty or pee pee. Give the pup lots of love for doing it and also if you can spend a few extra mins outside just to play after that so he/she associates peeing outside as good and gets happy playtime after. My routine was 7 am puppy waked up and was taken out of the cage to pee right away I would play with him for five or ten mins outside to show him that peeing outside is fun and gets a fun reward. I then inside gave food and water. After eating I would play a little with him or give him toys to play with and stay in the room to keep supervision. I used a child safety gate at the door to the room we were in so I could watch him to make sure he was not getting into anything or walking around the house to pee someplace. About 30/45 mins I took him out to pee and poo and once again played with him after. Then I put him back in the cage with a toy to sleep. When he woke up I took him outside for a pee and played with him and then brought him in to play with his toys in whatever room I was in. If he started to pee on the floor I would clap my hands and call his name till I got to him, picked him up (mid stream) to take outside. I found that I got to know the routine and with the help of the cage and puppy pen by the 4th week my puppies go to the gate to the room we are in & cry to be let out. It came naturally to all of them to cry to get out and pee. I never got mad at my pup for peeing on the floor or hit them. I just said his name over and over “Diesel, Diesel, Diesel” clapped my hands and when I got to him picked him up and took him out. He got lots of treats for pooping outside and playtime after. Food wise your puppy is small so little meals several times a day and water to go with it. Get toys for him to play with and have lots of interaction with other dogs (after your puppy has had his vaccines) I'm sure you will get more help with this as you need it and other peoples help, tips and advise on this. Have fun with your little bundle of joy.
I have a beautiful eight month old puggle. She is a sweet little dog. The one thing I really have to work on with her is recall (coming when called) I think she has more beagle in her and once she has her nose to the ground, off she goes and doesn't look back. If anyone has any advice on how to work with her on that I'd appreciate that lol. Anyway, I taught her to sit, down, rollover, speak, dance and when I tell her to get in her crate, off she goes and gets in it. Work with treats. It didn't take her but a day or two to pick up these tricks. She's a dog that loves to cuddle at night. I only leave her in the crate during the day. At eight months, i think she is going thru her terrible two's as now I find she is getting into more that she did when she was younger and the problem with that is she is so darn cute you can't stay mad at her. Good Luck and keep posting on her progress.
