This is something that happend to me before, And I was just thinking about it again, I was wandering what everybody else thought about it?
okay so I had a Chocolate lab, he lived at my dads. and one day I was at my moms house (parents are divorced) and when my dad comes to pick me up, he tells me this women called him last night and said that she has our dog. I didnt even know my dog was missing! he was wearing an ID tag on so thats how she called. but anyway, it was at night before my dad went to bed, and she asked for our address, and she said she would bring him by tommorow, with my dad not even thinking he doesnt ask for her number or address, nor does she tell him. So when we get home, Im waiting for my dog but he never shows up. now im upset, we cant get ahold of her. so he never shows up. We put ads around town and in the paper for "missing dog" and dont get a response untill a mont later.
The lady calls us back again and tells us she still has our dog, but she has grown attached to him and wants to keep him, but we get her address and we go to get him. When we get there she is telling us how she thought he was abused, because he was limping. so she didnt want to give him back. I have never beat my dog, he obviusly got hurt while being lost. But anyway, She is telling us how she renamed MY dog (by the way, he was wearing a tag so she knew his name) and was talking about how her boyfriend is going to miss him. How does she think I felt? I raised him! okay so then she goe's looking for his tag and collar to give it back to us. She tells us how her friends seen all the ads around town and told her about them, and she still waited a month to contact us?!! Then she tells her son they will find another stray. and then tells us how she has like 100 dogs somewhere she fount wandering. Im like Huh?? I was speachless, I didnt know what to say or think. But thankfully we get him back home, he was so happy to see us! but by the time we got back home he must have "forgot" about our other dog, and they never got along again. so I was always upset with how they kept him away from us, and made them no longer "friends" Does this make these people dog stealers?
I've never realy talked about this with anybody but family, and have been wandering about this lately. was wandering what everybody elses view on this is?
This almost happended to me once. Stanley my dog, with my medium sized dog, keeta. This chunky woman with a litte Shih Tzu came up to my gate and tried to come in, but keeta scared her off. Beause when she sees another dog she goes bizzerk (sp). I think she was after Stanley because he was not neutered at that time. It never happened again.
It's for this reason alone that I have a well fenced backyard with a lock on the front gate. When Turbo does go outside I keep both kitchen windows and patio doors open. This way I can hear everything. He now barks at strangers so this also helps. If he's out of my vision I'll go outside and check on him.
My heart reaches out to you... I can't imagine having my Turbo taken away from me! Even for a short spell.
Okay so I never mention this before because I still feel horribly guilty about it, so please don't judge me. Last June my neighbors JRT had pups. So my hubby and I decided to adopt one. The only female, we name her Lady. My son was 18 months old at the time, and yes its fair to say I got in way over my head..I know I did and I regret it! On certain seemigly nice days I would let her stay in the yard in stead of the crate. Because of not being the best puppy parent I was still trying to train her. So when I left her in the crate I always had a mess to clean when I got home. But my neighbor was a stay at home mom so she would look in on her from time to time and if it got cold or started to rain she would let her in the house for me. I put a bed outside for her and some coverage. I now know this was the wrong thing to do. The week of Thanksgiving we were heading to NC to visit some relatives. We decided to take Lady with us since she was only a pup still instead of kennelling her. The day before we were supposed to leave I got home from work it had just started to rain so I ran to the yard and yelled for Lady to come in... I called and called, she never came, I called my neighbor thinking maybe she put her in her house for some reason, but no she didn't have her. So I ran outside in the yard to fine my gate, open. I paniced. Called my folks to watch my son while I run the neighborhood searching. At this point it was pouring rain. I left David with my neighbors until my folks to get there and I ran the streets like a crasy women shouting Lady... I did this for 2 hours before my hubby came home and forced me inside. Then I called the SPCA's and the police not missing JRT were brought in. The next day I called every pound and SPCA in the tri county area, no one claimed they had her. My hubby went to the local SPCA and looked for her but she wasn't there. I put an ad in Petfinder.com, fidofinder. com The bottom line was we were leaving for NC that night. I had to leave and stop the search. I left number at all the shelters to call me if they any dog that fit her descrition. When we returned home I made another stop at the SPCA with no luck. I then decided to try a place called PACCA another shelter. The night she was lost they wouldn't take info over the phone, they said they had too many dogs to go looking, and said I had to come in. So I did as soon as I got back from NC. when I was there the front desk person told me I should have called. WHen I told her I tried she said only could oh dear... She then told me that if my pup made it through the door and was not claimed in 24 hours she was adopted out. She wouldn't even tell me if they had a JRT come through or not. Sorry this is so long.... I sitll to this day don't know what happened to my Lady. My neighbors in formed us that someone else they new also lost a dog that same day only a few blocks away, ony in that case their gate was locked and still locked when the dog went missing. They also never found that dog. My husband concluded due to the fact that no one responed to our flyers and ads and calls to the SPCA that she was probably stolen from us. I am not sure if he has been telling me that to only make me feel better but I still feel guilty.. as I know I should.
As I have recently told everyone one we just Adopted a 2 year old cocker spaniel. He is never left in the yard un supervised and stays in his crate while we are working. He comes with us camping on the weekends and will not leave my sight. I have learned my lesson the hard way. He is also microchipped, another saftey precaution. But that is my true story, Sorry I never mentioned it before, I was really afraid of what everyone would think of me.
Thats bull. She should have given him back. Yah im sure se planned to keep the dog but with all the posters around she didnt wat to draw attion and then finaly called.
When i was 5 my great uncle gave me a minpin about 3 years later someone came into our yard and stole him. there was no was he could have gotten out there was only one small section of fence (the rest was totaly blocked in its hard to explain there were gates a wall a pool looked good sounds strange) and there was no way he could ahve gotten through that. About 2 months later in the middle of the night there was a knock at the door, My grandpa opens the door ready to scream at who ever was there and there sat Mr.Bill he set him inside and looked around but all he saw was a car speeding off and a man driving. So Mr. bill runs downstares panting and I get woken up and i yell "grandma stop running up and down the hall brushing your teeth im tired" About that time Mr. Bill jumped on me. We think the guy eather took him to use him for breeding or was going to keep him but gave him back because he does not like men. the only men he liked was my grandpa my uncle and my dad my brother and as he got older he came to like some of my brothers friends. But other then people he knew or people I liked (he didnt know my dad that well) he hated men. He once tryed to attack one of my moms boyfriends at that time he didnt have teeth but he though he was gonna eat this guy. Of corse me grandma and grandpa sat there laughing.
Anyway yes I think thats like stealing. She knew it was your dog she told you she was going to bring it back and never did, she planned to keep him. Thats stealing. Lets say your walking around and you see a nice new cell phone. You pick it up put it in your pocket and go home after a bit it rings and you answer. You tell what happend to who ever called and find out its the owner of the phone and they were calling to see if they could hear it. So you decide to meet somewere so you can give it back. Now yo ucan eather give it back make a ton of long distance calls first (you miss your family but it costs to much to call on your phone) Or decide its to cute your gonna keep it.
Well if you make the calls your gonna ge in trouble, If you keep it your gonna get in trouble, If you give it back she will be very happy and maby even give you $50 sence it is a brand new phone and cost almost $200. Kinda the same thing
Wow danni that sucks, jacks are hard dogs. Right now on petfinder there are a ton of jacks and jack mixes. Firther down souh in Ark there are alot of winnie dogs. I could probly go down there and bring home at least 10. I found that one odd.
Anyway we all mess up. If your dog was put to sleep its not your fault, You called they wouldnt go look and no one told you they were put down in 24 hours.
Things like that happen to alot of us. I have had 2 dogs end up at the pound both because of my mother in law. The first she was caring for untill our fence got fixed and she dumped him and didnt tell us for at least 3 days (she said it was 3 days but I bet it was longer) the next was chichi. I know most of you rember my Chi drama. anyway we sold our house and ended up moving in with them because we didnt want to rent an appt for a month or 2 and not only have to pay a years rent but take chi-chi to the pound. well we ended up staying with her for amost 4 months from the very min we got there she yelled and screamed because of chi rocky and sagwa. I finaly got her to lay off rocky and the cat but I could get her to stop screaming about chi. The poor girl was stuck to a chain (she wouldnt let us let her run around because she may step on one of her plants or chew on a plant) and barked all the time. The chain was very lose because i was worried a wild animal would hurt her and I wanted her to be able to get free incase something came after her (i knew she wouldnt go far with out us) twards the 2nd month she had lost her voice from barking and had a cut on her neck from pulling at the chain. I hated it but we kept looking for a new home for her. Finaly around the 3rd month I felt bad for her. I couldnt stand to see her tied up I couldnt stand to hear her horse bark and I wanted to punch my mother in law. after a week of talking my husband took her to the pound. I called 3 times first to make sure they would take care of her and there was enough room for her and the lady told me that if it came to the point were she would be put to sleep they would take her to care (no kill place that only takes pets from shelters) So hubby took her to Mc donalds For lunch and then they sat in the car for over a hour untill finaly he took her in. I dont know why she hated chi so much. She was house traned, loving, and very sassy (hold out a treat tell her to sit and she will try to tell you why you should just give her the treat very cute.
we all mess up. I shoudl ahve knowen better then to stay with her expecaly after her taking one dog to the pound and griping every easter,Xmas, and thanksgiving because i brought rocky with us (we had only had Chi for less then a year and she was not totaly fond of cars so she would stay home and when we got back she would chow on turky) But we did it anyway thinking it would be ok.
when my mom was staying with us she had a old jack that got out of the house one day. I finaly found him at the vet went to get him and they wouldnt give him to me unless i agreed to go to court. I couldnt go to court I dont even drive. I started to cry and told them it was my moms dog, I couldnt drive so i couldnt get to court, and even if i did I didnt have my Id on me. I just stood there for 20 mins thinking. the pound guy said I wouldnt have to go if he had a collor I told him he had on a black one earlyer that day but when he got out I went to grab it and it was missing. If he had kept it on I wouldnt even be here. All in all the vet lady decited she wouldnt let me take him becaus it was not my dog and I should take responcabilty for my mom. So i called my mom every day for 4 days (we were busy) and told her she had to pick him up because he would be put to sleep on the 4th day. She never picked him up. I knew she wouldnt so called the vet and they said they had a lady wanting him and he would not be put to sleep because he was going with her on monday. I never told my mom on the 4th day i clled her a few names and asked how it felt to kill a dog. I wouldnt ahve done that but she said "im not going to court im not paying a fine hes just a dumb dog and im not wasting my time for him"
You will probly fell bad for a long time (maby forever) but just know alot of people have gone through things like you have.
Sorry it was so long i just had a ton of storys to tell. I hope it makes you feel at least a little better knowing that we all mess up sometimes. we are only human.
How sad someone would steal your dog. I'm glad you got the doggie back from the woman.
A neighbor walked into my moms yard right after putting my SIL's minpin out to use the bathroom a couple of days ago and she tried to steal him! My mom heard the commotion and walked outside, called him to her and the lady says "I thought that was my dog". Can you believe it?!!? She's a hag! Her dog was at her house, and it's a chi! They look nothing alike!
Thanks Danni,I agree. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your baby as well. I couldn't imagine not knowing where my dog was. I feel for you,you searched, made calls,everything...and still nothing! I hope your baby is doing good and is healthy. I'll keep positive thoughts for you and your furry friend.
It's horrible what some people will do just to save some money....
When I was 7 my mom got me a dobie.. we lived on just over an acre lot, in the country. One day we went to the grocery store, and left her outside, we were gone for about 1-2 hours. When we came home Scamp was nowhere to be found, my mom made phone calls, I checked with all the neighbours, and went searching in the woods. Still to this day, I have no idea what ever happened to her....
