My Grandmother was 87 years old, suffering from COPD. We've been preparing ourselves for her death for about a year now - just knowing that when the end came it would be terribly painful for her. My father, went faithfully, every single day to the nursing home to take care of her and to visit with her for about an hour. This weekend he decided to drive to Southern Kentucky to visit my brother... I received a call from my parents at 8:30 tonight - Grandma had passed away. I rushed to the Nursing Home to wait with her for the Funeral Home to come and get her. She died peacefully, the nurses said that she got ready for bed, and about 5 minutes after she laid down that came in to check on her and she was gone. She obviously felt no pain.
I helped them cover her and put her on the gurney that took her to the funeral home and then spent the rest of the evening packing up her belongings from the nursing home. I couldn't be there to help my dad through his grief - but I could keep him from having to pack up his mothers belongings.
My parents are driving home in the morning. Please keep them in your thoughts and pray for travel mercies. I also ask that you pray for my family, especially my father - he lost his father one year and one week ago.
Tonight, my Grandparents are dancing together in heaven. You see, they were professional dancers - and I know that they are together, and happy again.
Sonja, Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. We will keep you in our prayers, and even though I am in eastern NC, let me know if there is anything I can do for you. We have just recently, 3 weeks ago, buried my 1st cousin at age 28, so I know what you are going through right now. XOXOXO, Stephanie and the wild and crazy bunch
