Last night while I was sleeping my puppy was in his crate, which normally he is pretty good, but for no reason at all at about 2 in the mourning, he started yelping and screaming like someone was beating him. It lasted about 4-5 seconds and by the time i got there he had stopped either because of my voice or he just stopped. Now i will say a few times he has yelped from biting his foot or tail to hard but i've never heard him do this. hes about 14 weeks, does anyone have a clue what could've happened...BTW I'm pretty sure he was sleeping, before he started. Afterwords, my girlfriend took him out and he slept on the bed and was fine.
Some dogs are very vivid dreamers, when my mixed breed dog Bowen was a puppy he would dream and occasionally yelp like he was being beaten. Then you woke him up and he was fine. I think he just had nightmares, personally, and that's what it sounds like is happening with your dog.
Ive had dogs that dont like the crate. They do ok in it until they hear me moving around in my bed and then they start hollering. They stop when they know im up. What i do now is use a sheet or a light blanket to cover the kennels at night.
I have also had a couple that would have nightmares, or something like them, and they would wake up hollering. In that case there wasnt anytihng i could do for them.
Georgie had about 5 screaming fits when she was younger. It was right around 5 months old. Each time was under different circumstances and last a few minutes. Only once did it happen when she was sleeping.
We took her to the vet and they did not find anything wrong. I had noticed her belly jumping and we thought maybe she had bad gas. The vet just suggested we stay away from any beef, liver or high fat foods and treats. We only give both of ours turkey, chicken and lamb food and treats or something like a milkbone biscuit.
It did stop after that.
Yours may be a nightmare but if it happens more and at different times it could be something similar.
Well, I'm happy to say that Macy don't really have any heavy night mares, but she does cry lightly on certain occasion during her sleep, light dreams or what not, but I always to go to her and comfort her, then she calms down. Maybe if you do something like that it would calm ur pup down, at least it works for Macy then she sleeps fine throughout the night.
