Since the Boxer incident, it really made me think how important it is to make sure Max knows where home is. I know he does incase of emergencies, but we've been practising.
Whenever he nudges his leash to look over the other side of the street, I jerk it to the direction he should be going in, and tell him "No, Max, go home". Now he just keeps walking in the direction of "home". And turns around to look at me when we're home.
I slow down my walking, and he gives me a little look or begins to run up the path to my house. I won't lie, it's never easy teaching him something new because he's still a puppy, and he's a pomeranian, so he's a hyper ball of fluff. But he's really doing great with it.
Also, he was so skittish of dogs for a week after the boxer incident. He saw a dog, and started flipping out running around in circles by my feet. Then , peeing on the spot. Max has NEVER been like this. He's always loved dogs, never been afraid, no matter what the size. So, I got my friend to bring her doxie on a walk with her, just so get him used to dogs again. He's fine now, getting better.
Just thought I'd give a little update on his progress.
How goes life with School and little Max? I haven't been posting much of late. What happened with Max and this Boxer your speaking of?
That's a great idea about getting ones dog to find home. Especially in cases of an emergency. I've been walking Turbo everyday using the same route. When he's familiar enough with that one I'll change our route to another one. Glad to hear your Max is being such a good trooper! :)
School is going great, I just started high school. It's right down the block, a 2 minute walk. So it's nice not to have to worry about missing a bus. We start at 7:30 and finish at 1:50, it's a short day, I really cannot complain. My old schedule in England was 8:30-4:30 bearing in mind I got on the bus at 7:30 and got home at 5:30-6 each night.
How's Turbo, and those puppy classes? I'll bet he's growing really quick. Any new pics?
OMG! :o... That must have been one heart gripping moment for the both of you! I'm glad that Max is non worse from the whole ordeal.
Glad to hear school is goig well... and such short days! Wow!! more time with Max! Turbo is growing leaps and bounds. A mighty pup of 12.5 lbs Looking cuter each and every day. Or so I think so! (lol)
I went to those puppy classes and to be honest I wasn't that impressed with the trainer and how he viewed some of the pups that were in our class. He kept making negative comments about Turbo being a JRT. That I left even before the course was finished. Not the trainer but the owner phoned me one day. Asking why I had not come in to finish all the classes. I explained and he refunded the money for the classes I didn't attend.
Which made me wonder if he thought I was correct in not doing so? However I did meet this really cool girl who had this amazing Boson Terrier. We have since exchanged emails... just to pup chat!
I've included a very recent Summer snap shot of Turbo for you. :) His ears were half mast due to his horrible teething stage. I'm happy to say that they're back to normal. I can't wait for the 7th month of teething to pass though. He even has a little scruff around his face now... too cute! ((Hugs)) to you and Max from Turbo and I
OMG he is so cute! He's grown so fast within a few months, wow. His face has matured a lot. I remember when Max was teething, I tried saving his teeth because he spat them out on me, but I can't seem to find them!
Your lucky you got refunded for the puppy classes, but I'd really try a better course it's so much better in the long run. Find somewhere where they don't discriminate against a certain breed, gosh what is it with people?
Glad you find my pup Turbo so cute! (lol) He's even grown some JRT scruff around his face!
As for loosing his teeth I've kept one molar and one incisor. Still can't believe how many he would loose at the same time! (shocker) Throughout one day he spat out 3 puppy teeth. I think it's after 7 months the teething period is over! Yipeeee!!!!
The puppy classes were taken through a local dog training business. It was refered to me by my vet. A couple of her clients had gone there and loved it. They also do K9 training with GS's.
For whatever reason this trainer didn't like JRT's. He would make very sarcastic comments about Turbo's breed. At one time he even made Turbo the brunt of a joke! (nasty) That's when I left... pronto! However I dressed him down before I left! Even some of the other pet owners were looking at each other. As if questioning why is this guy after this dog so much?
It's really made me second guess... puppy classes! Turbo is very smart and has learnt many commands through my own training. I just might keep it that way. At least I know he's learning under my guidance, understanding and love.!!!
