Well the call came in last night from a woman who needed us to pick up a stray, the story was that she fed the poor girl once, and then she wouldn't leave. Oh who wants a starving dog dying in their front lawn right? So lets just call someone else to deal with it instead of being a good person with a heart! I am actually sick to my stomache over this poor dog. She is so weak she can barely stand, both of her eyes have serious infections in them, she is NOTHING but skin and bones. The woman who called about her had nothing "good" to say about how people around here treat their dogs (she was from Florida) yet she was no better, she witheld food from this dog in hopes that it would go away!!!!! When it didn't leave she resorted to calling us, just sad. "Lady" has a vet appointment this morning, and we will find out if she can be saved or not. I have my fingers crossed that she is one who can be saved, I am in love with her. She truly is one with a broken spirit, and my heart goes out to her. She makes no eye contact, and walks with her head down, the happiness and joy is gone from this girls heart, and I hope that I can get it back.
The pictures are sad, so if you have a weak heart, this is a warning....grab a tissue box.
I can't imagine just letting a stray dog starve on my front lawn because I didn't want it, all she had to do was feed her and take her to the vet, heck leave her at the vet, at least she would of had a better chance. If she is HW posistive of course we'll treat her, but whether she can survive the treatment is another thing. I'm a ball of nerves waiting to hear the diagnosis.
Just seeing that poor dog on my front lawn, would have broke my heart in two. Not only would I have feed her but cared for her or if I could I would have gotten her the care she needed. But at least this person had enough sence to call you and not dump the dog somewhere. Hope you get good news. Give her a kiss for me.
Lady came back HW negative!!!! She is 50lbs, but very underweight. The vet said all she needs is some TLC and she'll be as good as new, he said she has a GREAT temperment considering what she has been through, and she is definatly a pure bred dobie. I've already decided that I want her, now it's just getting hubby to agree on the idea, I don't think he'll need much swaying since he's wanted a dobie since he met my best friend's Dobi, Lexi. She does have a very nasty eye infection; which as obvious so we have some drops for her eyes. I'll post some more pics either later tonight or tomorrow.
I haven't a clue why she didn't feed her, the woman had a dog of her own so of course she HAD dog food. I'm sure if the dog had gone off instead of returning to her property she would never had called us.
So last night was the monthly meeting for the Animal Welfare Network, we discussed not only the story on Tammy Grimes, but we also have a situation quite the same going on here as well, so we discussed that and the upcomeing court date. We're also planning a "Holiday Shop" to help raise money. We'll have a photographer to take pictures of pets and kids with Santa, as well as sell "gifts" such as doggie biscuts, kat nip bags, things like that. If anyone has any crafty ideas I would be more than happy to hear them!!!!
I still haven't spent much time with Lady, the most I've seen of her is through pictures. When we had the Petsmart adoptathon I had left my cage at my MIL's so when we picked her up, we just took her over there since my MIL would be the one taking her to the vet, lol I can't go anywhere with the girls, and I definatly couldn't listen to the vet's instructions. She'll stay at my MIL's for a couple more days before we bring her here, I really want her eyes to clear up before she has to put up with Kaycee, Buddy, and the kids :) She is soooo afraid of the other dogs, when we brought her into the house after the vet the other dogs came up to say hi, she dropped to the floor and covered her face with her paws :( It's aparent that she has been beaten up on by other dogs, you can see a bite mark in her back leg in one of the pictures, she also had some other puncture wounds on her chest too. In her weakened state I'm sure she had trouble defending herself. I'm going over tonight to spend some time loving on her.
