I started off with Wellness for my new puppy and he has the worst diarrhea ever! It got progressively worse. I did the whole gradual switch over 10 days and his poop looks like melted chocolate. He has been on it for almost a month. My vet said Wellness although it is great, may be to rich for him. She suggested that I switch to Eagle Pack Hollistic which I bought today. Anyone else feed Eagle Pack or Wellness?
Wellness changed their formulas a while ago and alot of dogs had problems with it. That could be why he has the poop issues. Eagle Pack Holistic is good, but make sure you dont get basic Eagle Pack. The basic one is crap.
If your dog is still having a poop problem then there might be an ingredient he is sensitive too.
Hannah (puppy basset) does well on Wellness but when I had tried to get her on EVO that was a mess! We had tried the Evo first but since Hannah didn't do well we switched to the Wellness (just to clarify).
I go by the recommended 1 1/2 cup per day. How many times per day should he be eating? I was leaving his food out but he pooped all day and all over the place. Now I feed him at specific times but Im not sure if it should be twice a day, 3 times a day etc. Also, I hear that a cup of rice with ground beef or turkey helps with the diarrhea. Is that correct? Should the meat be raw?
Really, never heard that tip before. He actually likes the Eagle Pack and scarfs it down like the Wellness. Actually, I don't know if he likes it or if he is just greedy and will eat anything! He is about 5lbs now and is still growing. He is 12.5 weeks old.
sweetie pie - My dogs couldn't handle the Wellness either. They also couldn't eat the Innova. I too have found good results from the Eagle Pack Holistic food. My Siberian Huskys get the Anchovy, Sardine and Salmon. I have also used the Lamb. One of my girls is allergic to chicken, so we try to stick with the fish, but I have also found that they really like Solid Gold. The bison seems to agree with them too.
Oh wow. I go by the suggested serving on the back of the package. I am so happy though that he immediately had firmer poop from EP. He is now pooping on a more regular schedule too. Within 20 minutes of eating, he goes.
The tip I got from my breeder, which I haven't had to try yet, is to feed them a meal of instant oatmeal between his regular meal. My pup only eats twice a day so it would be one package of instant oatmeal for "lunch".
Diarrhea could sometimes be a result of stress. Especially when you bring a puppy to a new home.
As for food if feed him Purina Puppy Chow. Believe it or not my breeder recommended it as a must. I have a Lab and she said it was essential that I feed him Puppy Chow for one year to avoid hip dysplasia.

It is also a good idea to feed some yogurt every day especially if they have diarrhea.
the canned pumpkin works for constipation as well as diarrhea & is safe for cats as well.
Someone asked about hambg & rice. This is normally used after a fast. You bring them back slowly on boiled, rinsed hmbg. or chicken & rice. About 1/3 meat, several small meals a day. That gives their intestines a rest.
