I had to take Alex (my Chow mix) to the vet this morning. He is coughing, has a runny nose and a fever. They said his fever is 104. They kept him and are going to put him under to get a good look down his throat. He wasn't trying to bite them or anything but he wouldn't hold still enough for them to get a good look. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much for your kindness. Alex is doing fine. He had the tape from a cassette tape wound around the back of his tongue and stuck in his esophagus. When the vet put him under she was able to get it all out. I am in shock! Alex is the one I would least suspect of getting into something like that. He doesn't even chew on the bone that I got him. He doesn't chew on or play with toys. I am so happy he is on his on his way to recovery. He is on medication and I have to feed him watered down canned food until his throat heals. Thanks again for your prayers!
Alex is feeling much better today. I thought I would have a hard time getting him to eat but he is eating the watered down canned food well. He had an ear infection as well. They shaved the hair in his ears so it's easy to get the drops in them. I saved the bag with the cassette tape they took out of his throat but it was really smelly so I got rid of it after I showed my husband and sons. My 13 year old son is the one who put the box of stuff with the cassette in it downstairs. He said he apologized to Alex for what happened. I thought that was sweet of him. I know he will be more careful of where he puts stuff from now on. Alex is getting lots of hugs (more than usual) now!
