Bailey, a 4 month old pug/beagle mix, has been pooping a WHOLE lot. I take her out in the morning around 5am when my bfriend leaves for work. At this time she will take a pee and poo. The poop is about 3 logs folded over in length and good shape. She will then have to go out around 8 or 9 am and will go poo and pee again. To me either one of those should have amounted for her morning poo, but to have 2 seems much to me. This carries on to where she is going once in the afternoon, then later afternoon, and then once again at night. Sometimes she will go twice at night.
Bailey is 13 lbs. I feed her Nutro Natures recipe, the one for sensitive stomachs. I just switched her to this food. She was on Nutro max for puppies. Her poop was more runny on the max one. The natures recipe seems to be making her constipated. I take her outside and she will go poo but then stop early and want to go inside, only to want back out an hr later.
Any advice on food I should try or what might be going on? I use her food for treats or sometimes give her some puppy bones for treats, but she doesn't eat anything else.
We did the switch because she was pooping all the time and the consistancy of it was very mushy. Not runny but not completely solid either. Sometimes her poop would look like they were almost covered with snot. After the switch she is better but then again not really. Instead of having soft snotty poop she has solid pebble poops and seems constipated.
Neither of my dogs have ever had "normal" poop. Its always pretty soft. Thats not necessarily a bad thing. I wouldn't worry too much. Stick with the new food for a month or so and see how she is doing then. She coudl have a belly ache from switching too fast.
LOL hehe No I do not have kids. I am 28 and not married. I tend to worry alot, got to work on that. This is also my first dog of my own and I want to make sure she is taken care of properly.
I am just very unsure of my vet or old vet shall I say. The reason for this is because every time I took bailey in there the lady kept going on about how she is going to fix her. But each time I remind her once again that my pup has already been fixed. This isn't the only thing that has happened, it is almost as if she never even looks at my dogs chart or even remembers her. The lady seems very impersonal and fake. During one visit she gave bailey 6 large treats. To me that was excessive. I like the place and will be seeing a different doctor in the same building.

Actually thelifeofriley, continueally soft poops can contribute to anal sac problems. That's because the pressure of poop passing beyond the anal sphincter muscle and the anal sacs puts enough pressure on them to 'naturally release' the sacs. It's yet another reason why poop stinks. :P
Jackson used to poop 5 times a day when he was young. Now it is usually 3 times and Georgie twice a day. I do look at the poop and it can be a telling sign about their diet and their health. I don't stress over one runny or different looking poop but look for a trend. Eukanuba made Georgie have mushy poop.
I would not switch your dog right away. We fed Nutro when ours were puppies and they did fine. Look into different foods. Higher grade foods will give you less poop. Foods with higher percentages of grain will give you more poop.
Wellness, Artemis, Solid Gold, Candidae, Natural Balance are all examples of good foods. There are others out there that escape me right now. Nutro is more of a middle grade food from what I have read.
I have 2 beagle mixes and I'm of the opinion that Beagle's just poop alot! My dogs go at least 3-4 times a day. Some days it's soft, some days it's hard... I just try to make sure to keep an eye on it and if I see anything COMPLETELY out of the norm... I call the vet.
If you don't trust your vet - find a different one. That's like taking your kid to a pediatrician that you think is an idiot...
