We have acreage. We seperate our trash and recycle the glass, cans, etc. The paper trash is burnt and hauled and spread in the back of our property. Once it is ashes, it decinigrates (sp?) Our grass in greenest back there!
If my boy poops in his indoor/outdoor kennel, I flush it down the toilet...I mean, it is poop! He usually poops in the woods on our property or in the long grass in the ditch, and I don't feel I have to pick it up. We're rural folk, lol!
If he poops where people walk or in mown areas, I dispose of it properly.
We have a huge back yard so it may not seem like all three of my dogs -do- a alot of "doo" but they -do!- It is just scattered here and there, never in one place. Every weekend is pooh pick up day at my house and it usally takes me about 2 hours tops to get everything. We also have a lot of trees in our back yard that -weren't- doing so well because their old and we -were- going through a drout, but we started useing the pooh as firtalizer, just dig a hole, shovel some pooh in and cover the hole back up then BAM all our trees look green and bushy again! -not my favortie job- Every once and a while my other dog Junior from my mothers house comes over for the weekend, then the pooh really piles up.....
Okay I pick it up in my yard every 2-3 days, I have a little garbage can wiht a bag in it that i put it in. the on fridays it goes out with the trash, as does the kittle litter. It is against the law here to throw it in the trash, or flush it, so I have no clue what they want a person to do with it, but this is what I do.
LOL! When they say our landfills are filling up, I guess we all know now what they're filling up with! Seriously, I'm just sititng here thinking about all the plastic encrusted poo.... perfectly well preserved....
Well thank you all who have replied! I like the hole in the pasture idea. I think that maybe the reason the Doggy Dooley thing isn't working for us is because our soil is too sandy and everytime I add the water it just drains right away. We have always bagged it and put it out with the trash but I was looking for another way. Not too pleasant lifting that trash can lid in the summer to dump the pooper scooper! We like to keep our yards picked up well. We have plenty of acreage to work with , maybe we can try the hole idea, but will that cause an odor I wonder? How do you start a compost pile? Do they stink?
