Well I finally got Lady home with us. We were wanting to let her gain some weight and get rid of the brunt of the eye infections before bringing her here. She really looks great, well great compared to what she looked like when she was picked up. I still won't take her for a walk through the neighborhood just yet lol, I might be accused of starving her. She's gained 10lbs in a little more than a week, her ribs are barely visible, but she needs to gain quite a bit more. She's still on ivermectin for her skin problems. The one eye has cleared quite well, but the other eye is still touch and go. The vet says it's going to be a while before we know if the eye is still good or not. The way she squeezes it closed really isn't helping the healing process. You can definatly see a chnage in her though, she's finally warming up to life again, and boy is she playful :) I'll definatly get plenty of pictures so you all can see how good she's starting to look. A few more weeks and she'll look like a real Doberman. We still don't really know her true disposition, it may take some more time. She gets spooked at just about every loud noise, but I think part of that has to do with the fact that she really can't see out of the one eye. So far her actions towards the kids have been really amazing, Makenzie started crying this morning and Lady came running into the kitchen to find out what was wrong, when she saw Makenzie she went right up and started licking her to comfort her. I have made a rule about running in the house for now, just untill lady gets comfortable with all the comotion :) Lol ok I'll stop rambbeling :)
I am truly amazed at how well she is doing. I heard her bark for the first time today lol it was a hoot to hear her vocalize. I gave her a bath so that really brought back her "shine" and took away the yucky mange smell. I know there are a few Doberman owners on here, just can't remember who they are lol. I was wondering what everyone uses on their dobermans to keep them "shiny" Since she still has the flea dermatitis I used baby shampoo on her this time and then mane and tail conditioner, she's definatly smooth and shiny now. I'm currently feeding her Harvest Baked chicken formula and suplementing her with eggs, yogurt, boiled chicken and some other yummy stuff. I expect her to top out around 65-70lbs for her "ideal" weight. Right now she's about 50. I've been doing loads of reading since we decided to take her, just wondering what works for everyone else. Also anyone know of a good site that explains how to dremel the nails? I'm going to have them clipped at the vet this next check up but I'd rather save the $15 and do them on my own. Lady and Buddy are getting along fine, Buddy and I had a little pow wow last night after he growled at her for getting close to me while I was petting him. He just likes his "space" lol.
I forgot to mention the scare Kaycee gave me yesterday! DH was out mowing the lawn and I had just mopped the floors so the dogs were on the porch. Anyway Kaycee had gone into the yard to potty when Joe spooked her with the mower, mind you she has her ivnisible fence collar on. She took of running, hit the boundaries and got shocked instead of turning around to come back she kept going. I could hear her yellping over the mower running and the kids screaming, so I went running out and unplugged the invisible fence. It was too late she was gone! I spent 45 minutes scouring the woods looking for her, no sign of her anywhere. So I finally just gave up since I knew she would be home eventually. As soon as I poured the food into her bowl outside she came running lol. Goofy girl I felt so bad, so next time we cut the grass she'll be in the house :)
I really don't have an idea, her teeth look very white so either she's young or she once had a very wonderful owner. She's really spunky and playful, but my best friend's Dobi is 4yrs old and is just as playful as lady. Only thing that has me stummped is her size, I know that Dobermans are a "medium" size breed, but she seem significantly smaller than Lexi my friends Dobi. That could be from a number of things though, either she's not fully grown, being malnourished has caused her to be smaller, or she was just poorly bred. Either way I am in love with her. She's the sweetest thing, when I lay on the couch she comes over and rests her head next to mine :)
what happen to her this is the first ive seen your post it almost sounds like she was mistreated where did you get her from by the looks of your post i hope they get after the owners that did this to her thank you so much for adopting her how old is she
