He is adorable! There is a female hound in our area that is allowed to roam. She frequently visits my house. I have no idea what her name is, but my daughters call her "Bethlehem". She is a most loving dog! Congrats!
Thanks all, I'll show my mom whatchas all said, they're thrilled.
lovmypom, I know.. I spent three days on the internet and on the phone. I even went to the school the child I babysit goes to, looking for this woman who always walks her hound to pick up her daughter.. lol.
Anyways, I talked and emailed with 13 or 14 different breeders both in my area and out of it, and I learned VERY quickly, that cheaper is NOT better with hounds (probably with all dogs, but definitely with hounds). The average price was 500 dollars, usually 550, some 600 shipping included, etc.
Some wouldnt ship, saying it's extremely harmful and inhumane and they'd never ever do such a thing. Well, frankly it was typical with the more, shall we say, byb-looking websites and breeders. (sorry to anyone that offends, that was just my experience in this search). Anyways, so I found a breeder in Tennessee who asked ALL the right questions (the hard ones that a breeder who cares about her pups asks about the family), had a foolproof and responsible contract, was on the higher end of the price scale (800 plus shipping), she wouldnt ship under a certain age, sent pics, talked on the phone with my mom, emails me daily, etc..
Point is, after many many bad in the span of a week, I think I found the best there is available :) I tend to get obssessive when it comes to attaining a goal, and in this case it paid off.
What a cutie!!! You just have to grab his neck skin and pull it forward and he has a built-in hoodie. It sounds like you did all the right things to find a good one. He has beautiful coloring. One word of warning - you have to keep his back toenails cut short. If they get longer than the front ones his skin will slide forward and his eyebrows will be on the floor. Gotta keep 'em balanced, lol!
