My healthy one year old lab boxer mix is a very out going lovable family member.Everything with her has been fine up until she went into heat.I am not sure if it is because i caught her hooked with another dog but it has been since about then (3-4 days ago) she wont eat!!! We are not sure if it is that or the fact that she is just picky and we couldnt find the food we had her on at the store this time, and we did go look at a few different stores. She is not only not eating she is just not acting like herself at this time. she wouldnt even eat her cookies the other day.She did eat one yesterday. She is sleeping a lot too.I dont know if she had been hooked up prior and we didnt notice. If she is pregnant could she be having sickness--she threw up lastnight!! Of course it is the weekend so i tried to call the vet to no avail got no answer left message we are just really worried about her.
It makes me sad that your dog not only is sick, but that she's is a unaltered mixed breed dog that was left unsupervised, now has been bred by another dog, and is likely pregnant as a result. This is a major reason why we have so many problems with pet overpopulation in our humane societies now. Why o why didn't you have her spayed?
Either way... Your dog is throwing up, clearly not acting like herself. It is not normal for a dog to throw up as a result of being bred 4 days later.
YOu need to take her to the vet immediately. It's possible that the male dogs had brucellosis and has infected her, though the effect would not be on her so much as as it woudl be on offspring she carries. Or the male dog may have another disease entirely. Is she up to date on all of her vaccinations, especially parvovirus and distemper? Not to mention, she could potentially have a far more serious infection called pyometra. Either way you MUST take her to a vet ASAP.
update on casey, Just to let you all know first of all this is the first time she has gone into heat, secondly she is not pregnant and yes she is getting fixed.I rescued her from an abusive situation first of all,and didnt know if she had been fixed or not or anything about her when we rescued her we did take her to the vet and she recieved a clean bill of health at that time.Since my post though she did go to the vet and is healthy and no problems. She has also perked up and is her normal self again.
I feel sorry for your poor dog. You should have gotten her fixed before she went into heat AND was bred. You're not being a very responsible pet owner. I have all my dogs fixed as soon as I can get them in to the vet, 24-72 hours after adoption.
I am irrisponsible!!!!I rescued this dog from an abandon house, she had a wire going through her neck, very mal nourished and dehydrated.Having her fixed when i found her was not an opition at that time her health was!!!!!Come on people i am a very responsible person. My vet was more concerned with the health issues at hand and then she went into heat.I knew nothing about her i didnt adopt her from a shelter I Saved her.She was tied to this house with no food no water and you could count every bone in her body, she was infested with ticks and not to mention the bloody neck from a wire that she was tied to this house with and the very short rope so short she couldnt even get under the porch to the house she was tied to.So who ever had her before me was the irrisponsible one my dogs are very much a part of my family just as my kids are she is very spoiled she talks, she says i love you.She goes everywhere we do.I am just thankful she is alive(vet said her chances when i got her were slim)Yes i know i should spay her and she is getting spayed friday.I thought ya all should know the WHOLE STORY
I am sorry about your dog,and i can sense you really care about her, If you didnt you wouldnt have rescued her.I am glad she is doing better keep us posted on her and what a beautiful great dane!!!Is it a he or she?
