I found a home yesterday for a dog who I thought would be perfect. The dog loved her on sight andf she totally assured me he would be spoiled. She even said, "oh, you know us and how much we love animals!" Made me think he would be with her until he died of old age. She had called me and said "I would love to have him if you'll let me" Doesn't that give the impression she's serious about having him as her own dog??
Well I called her today(upon finding out she's in charge of the humane society here) And found out the lady is only keeping him long enough to find him a good home!!!
I am so steamed right now, I want to march right back and bring him home with me again. It's bad enough that he's got separation anxiety issues, but she's planning on passing him off again!!
Short explanation of what went down: I advertised a male dog I had that I didn't want to use for breeding. She called and said she wanted him, and that he would be neutered and live inside. I took him to meet her. She didn't want to drive to our house. She seemed to love him. he sure loved her. He is a dog who never warms up to someone immediately. So I felt good about leaving him with her. Before leaving for the night I find out she's heading the humane society here. Next day I call to see how he's doing in his new home, and that's when I am informed that he's not in his new home, that they will only keep him until a good home is found.
So now I'm pissed. Should I tell her that she made me think she was taking him for herself, and if all she's going to do is rehome him herself that I want him back?
He's a special dog, and I don't want just anyone getting him. I really thought he was going to a great home. :(
I beleive she's got him at the humane society right now. If so, how would I get him back considering I want to sell him?
I'd be taking him back... She got him under false pretenses.. And hasn't been paid for, nor has the contract been signed (which may cause issues tryign to get him back..) But you didn't sell him to her to have him readopted out again... I'd go asap and have a fit. Longer he's out of your care harder it will be to have a case..
Did you sign any release or give her any bill of sale? Anything saying that you were surrendering him to her? That is just nuts. Why would she be doing this? Does she intend to pay you at all or did she just steal him? Is she going to try to ask more for him than what you charged her? What is the deal??!!???!!!??
Get your dog back now, call the police if you need to, tell them that she took your dog under false pretenses and that you don't want to go through with the sale, no monies have been exchanged.
I don't know what she's planning. I just called her work. She's not there so I said to call me.
She will probably ask more for an adoption fee. I didn't ask much for him because I thought she'd be a great home. I'm sick though that MY boy may be in a shelter. I am very strict on my dogs NEVER EVER ending up in one of those places. I didn't sign anything saying I turned over ownership, and I still have his registration papers where he's registered in my name.
I didn't even know we had a humane society till yesterday. It just opened. I have to find out what the phone number and address is going to be. If I don't find the info I need before she calls I will ask her bluntly what her plans are for my dog. I will say I want him back if it's anything other than keeping him as a beloved family member. Wish me luck! I will take care of it. If anyone wants to try and help me get the info, it's nebraska's new humane society.
I second Ali's last post.. No contract, no money exchanged.. It looks like theft right now.. If he's in the shelter I'd be going down with his papers screaming bloody murder and calling the cops to come down if they won't give him back..
The humane society lady looks like a nut and it may get a lot nuttier yet.
Yep, wow, keep us posted. Maybe the pound (animal control) would have the address. Or are they on petfinder? Seriously though time is of the essence you don't want them claiming that you surrendered him, abandoned him and changed your mind. This is really shocking.
