We have a small JRT 2.5 years old 14lbs.

We recently found and have been nursing back to healt a APBT he is about 1.5 years we think, and maybe 60lbs.

We had been keeping them separated, but one day I cam home and found the two dogs in the same room, and my female JRT had gotten her doggie diaper(for her heat) off of her somehow..

Can a large breed like a pit bull impregnate a small breed like a Jack Russell? I didnt think it was physically possible to the size difference.

I was talking to a co-worker who made me very paranoid. Basically she said that my JRT is almost 100%pregnent.

What are the chances? How can i tell, this was only a week ago?

Ultrasound at the vet after 26 days from when you think they mated. About the most effective way of determining pregnancy. I am not one for aborting puppies, but in this case if she is pregnant I would say the risk is too great to continue the pregnancy.

Is there a way to find out if shes pregnent this early on or do i have to wait to 26 days. If i have to wait 4 weeks to confirm she's pregnent isn't it too late for an abortion? What exactly is a dog abortion procedure?

Did you intend to breed her? If not just get her spayed, they you won't have the worry or guilt about aborting puppies. If you did intend to breed her, talk to your vet.

Yes she can be spayed at any time during the pregancy, I would imagine it is safer the earlier it is done not to mention there are only 63 days of pregnancy, so I personally think it is bad to abort puppies that are viable outside the womb.

It could kill her but there is also a chance she would be fine having the pups. I have a friend who will let anything breed her pups and sometimes mixes diffrent dogs just to see. Her small beagle fem (one of the smallest beagles I have ever seen) Just had pups by an irish terrier, She had no problems at all even though the dad is huge.

I personaly wouldnt risk it, Id eather plann to have a c section done, abort the pups, or get her fixed asap. But there is no way I would let her have the pups by her self.

I have never been a dog breeder or anything but my friend says you can usualy tell because there will be stuff on her after. Also I think it takes a wile for dogs to finish what they are doing so if you were not gone for more then a few mins I wouldnt worry about. The pitt may not have any intrest as well. My friend had a dog that wouldnt breed any of her dogs she also had a fem who would never attract any males. None of her males wanted anything to do with her when she was in heat and none of the males around wanted anything to do with her.

I dont knwo for sure but i think if yo uget her to pee in a cup a home test may work. I dont see why it wouldnt sence it works with rabbits.

Are you serious Monkey? A human preg test works on rabbits. lol.

That has to be one of the most interesting facts yet about bunnies.

Rottweiler_lovers why wouldn't a human pergancy test work on a rabbit.

They use to use rabbits in the good old days to see if a woman was pregrent.

JMO but I don't see how the pregancy test wouldn't work on a rabbit as for other animals though I'm not sure.


D2 abortions in dogs very as to what you want done. If you want to spay the female then they just take the uturas and all the puppies out.

If you don't want her spayed then they can give her shots that will make her abort the puppies.

I only seen it done once and the dog stayed at the clinic until it aborted. It took several days and think several shots, but not sure about the shots.

I had to stay away from her since I was pregant at the time.

I would go with just having her spayed though then you won't have to worry about this kind of thing again. Then if you are keeping the pit once he is well enough get him neurtered as well.

Rabbits are palpated at 14 days (or 10 if you're good like me) to confirm pregnancy. I've never, ever heard of using a pregnancy test on a rabbit, but I found this while seaching for something...

Pregnancy tests detect human chorionic gonadotropin (hcg) and I don't think that rabbits produce hcg when pregnant. I can do a little experiment though...

well for one thing has her stomach got bigger? well take her to the vet and see has any thing happend that seems like she is pregnet?

Chances are high she was bred, take them both to the vet and have them fixed.

Ive seen that thing befor. But i read somewere that a long time ago when they were first doing pee tests they would use preg rabbits to see if they worked or not.

If any of you have a dog thas preg for sure maby you can get her to pee in a cup and test it out. If it works next time there is a is my dog preg Q on here we can just tell them to go to walmart.

D2 hasn't posted in a while. It would be nice to know if she did intend to breed the girl later on or not. If not then the anwer is simple. If she did it is a bit more complex.

I didn't think vets liked to use that 'abortion shot' any more, something about it not being too good for the mother.

Okay here's where we stand...

Only noticable sings are....I think my JRT belly is a little fuller. She is so tiny and usually theres nothing to her there expect after she eats. Speaking of eating, she's seemed exceptionaly hungy. She was hanging out by her bowl last night before bed, wanting a second dinner, which is not her norm.

My vet said that the tests she would do aren't definitive until 40 days into the pregnancy, at that point it will be difficult to do anything about. I did manage to convince my vet to squeeze my JRT in for a spaying next week. I really don't want to put my little JRT through the operation, but its probably less risky than letting this play out. Am I over reacting? Im not positive they bred.

Im actually supposed to be out of the country in 2 weeks for a few weeks. SO it semms obvious to me I should do this and do it now.

Ironically my APBT that we have been raising is scheduled to be altered in November.

Well at least there will be no future accidents, and temperments should improve(not that thats an issue)
