I was watching Project Runway re-runs the other day and I saw a dog on the episode that I fell in love with! I dont know the type of breed but I have been seeing it everywhere now! I just lost my Yorkie of 12 years and was interested in another dog. If anyone can help that'd be great. The dog in question is the one behind the terrier in the green sweater on the left.
That is a corgi! Probably a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I was owned by one for nearly 17 years and am now in the process of finding another breeder. I can probably answer any questions you may have about this breed! Wonderful family dogs. They are a big dog in a small dog body.
Active? Its a subjective term. They are highly intelligent, have a great personality, they like agility things chasing balls, herding other pets or even people. They are good natured. Our middle daughter wanted one in the worst way and we gave in with 2 Irish Setters in the house. They get along great, and it's cute to see a Corgi herding up 2 setters. I have always liked bigger dogs and wasn't sure how I was going to handle a small dog in the house. But, I wouldn't let Ellie get away, neither would Rhoda or Charlie (the reds)
They are a herding breed so active does describe them. Mine traveled all over the country with me so they can settle when they have to. They are an intelligent, easy to train breed. They tend to shed quite a bit. They don't have a whole lot of health problems but can suffer from hip dysplasia, kidney and back issues. Some people have told me they are a snappy little breed but I have never experienced this.
The description by PWCORGILOVER is pretty darn accurate. I still think active is subjective :-) Ellie does enjoy playing and keeping busy, but defintely not hyper or anything. And she is very sweet. I don't have alot of experience w/Corgis. But am happy she is with us. Hope that helps. They do shed, but with 2 red heads, who cares if you regulary groom and vaccum.
they didnt strike me as a snappy breed, they've always looked friendly to me! My yorkie was another story but I guess it all depends on the environment. Yeah, activeness is subjective but I am sold! I think I will be looking into getting one by next year to keep my chihuaha company. Thanks so much for the advice everyone!
