I have a friend that has sand fleas or that is what she calls them -- I think they are simply fleas. But any way they are in her carpet and she needs to know how to get rid of them. Keep in mind besides having her dog in the house she also has a 2 year old also. So it has to be safe for both. I have heard of putting salt on the carpet but how does that work and does anyone else have any good ideas? Thanks so much any information is greatly appreciated.
Alot of people call scabees sand fleas if thats what it is she needs to go to the Dr.
If its just fleas there are tons of things That people swear work Like putting a candle in a bowl and that bowl in another bowl that has soap in it at night and the fleas will jump in, I read something about lemon juce once, There are tons of things and A girl I know has tryed them all the only thing she got to work was Boming the house once a week for a 3 months (that may be extreem but she wanted to get them all) You can get natural boom that does not hurt animals though you need to take them all out of the house for a certan amount of time wile it goes off and then agin for 30 mins (we usualy go at least a hour) wile the house clears. We have never boomed for fleas we did it for ants. But it got rid of my friends fleas so im sure it will work for your friend
Yah but I dont think that would be good to get them out of the carpet.
Also depending on were she lives that may not even work on her pets. Rocky never has fleas, Ok he gets them then i get ahold of him and he wont get any more for months. Im always picking at him so i notice them right away. Anyway because of all the stray cats here I cant get rid of them this time We have tryed every kind of drops I have been soaking him in the tub and scrubbing and picking for hours and the next day I will find more. I talked to the vet and asked witch works the best she asked were I lived and said Nothing will work right now everyone around there is complaing about fleas and no one can get rid of them because of the cats. I have only seen my cat so Im wondering were the others are. I know my cat does not have fleas I pick him as much as I pick rock and in the 5 years we have had him I have only found fleas on him once.
your dog can get fleas from outside? ive never heard of sand fleas.. so even if i dont have anther dog around my dog can still get fleas? can and dog and cat pass fleas back forth to each other? are all fleas the same or are their dog fleas and cat fleas? silly question i know.. but im a first time dog owner and we made it threw summer and fall with out any fleas from outside and winter is on its way- so i hope i missed this year- learn something new everyday on this forum
Yes Tappety. Even people who don't have animals, can experience problems with fleas coming inside.
Dog fleas, cat fleas, bitin on people fleas...all the same guys. That is why it is important to invest in flea and tick prevention. The water proof stuff is best.
Do you know about heartworms? They comes from a mosquito biting a dog and laying eggs in the bloodstream which travel to the heart weakening it as the worms grow and take it over. If you don't already, I would get your dog tested, and then get some heartworm prevention.
Treat all pets in the house with Frontline or Revolution for the next 2-3 months. Make sure all bedding is washed in hot water even pet bedding. Vaccum everything!!! The couch the floor under the bed anywhere the pets have gone. Throw out the vaccum bag!!! The biggest mistake people make is keeping the bag, the fleas can get out of there.
Just bacisly clean everywhere and anywhere the pet has been in the house. Also wash the pet bedding. If you treat the pet with on over the counter flea product good luck, they don't work. The Frontline is a little more costly, but in the longer run it's cheaper then buying a lot of the over the counter crap that ads up!!!
stdogs is correct..Diatomaceous earth is the best and is non-toxic to mammals, including children. It works by destroying the exoskeleton of insects, thus killing them, which is why you leave it on the carpet for 2 weeks. you can also feed it to animals for internal parasites
