Just had a nasty virus in my computer. I had to wipe everything out, I lost alot. And then, reinstall.
Just be careful. Don't let anyone who might open up something suspicious on your computer (my mistake). That includes, emails with attachments...sites with mega popups because they can attach spyware.
No junk mail or anything you don't know who it's from and if you are in an instant message, doesn't matter if you know the person or not, opt not to open a file if they try to send it. Their computer could be infected and they could potentially pass it along to yours without even knowing it.
What did you do? My husband tried installing another updated antivirus software, but it still hasn't fixed it. After 3 days of spending hours of trying to fix the computer, uhhh.... he threw the mouse down hard (but luckily didn't break it). So I told him to take a few days away from even trying.
sounds like spyware-- you need a spyware software suite-- one that will scan your pc and remove any and all infections. Virus software wont get rid of spyware usually. We have used adaware, spybot search & destroy and spy sweeper-- all three are installed on our two laptops and they each scan daily. We havent had any issues since installing these. They do a fine job
Spyware is hard to get rid of sometimes but thats what it sounds like youhave.
ali, unplug your comp from the internet. Take everythng in your computer you want to keep pictures, word files, saved games, music EVERYTHING and burn it to CD's. Then find your windows CD's and re-install windows, the best thing to do is labotamize your computer. Then get a very good virus and anti-spywear program. It is also a good idea to disconect from your high speed when you leave the computer as well.
Ok, that is out of my system. Thanks everyone, but all that stuff is way above my head (I don't even know how to burn stuff at all). I will have to wait for my husband to do it which he is working every day until next Tuesday. I think we have had to 'reformat' or start over before. That sucks. We do have a large external back up drive (from the last time this happened). I hope that stuff will be ok.
i agree with ruffian. we went through the same thing with my teenage daughters computer. the girls go on myspace, aim, aol, etc. alot of internet sharing sites. their comp got so messed up that it got to the point that they couldnt even sign on. quinn scrubbed out the hard drive. reinstalled the windows xp and installed the norton internet security with virus protection. we have it on our comp and havent had any problems.
