At the very least, 12 hours a day is mandatory with puppies for me.
Puppies must at times be forced to lay down and take naps. Ignore whining and screaming and such. Sleep and a well rested puppy makes an easy to deal with puppy. Over stimulated neurotic pups are often the result of not enough sleep.
I would think a pup that young would sleep about 15-18 hours a day. Adult dogs sleep 10-15...what a life. As for the crate, when you're home maybe she can sleep on a blanket near you or on your lap while you watch TV or whatever. enjoy this time it doesn't last long
My friend's puppy sleeps more than 20 hrs aday because my friend doens't take care of it too much (i know, but what can you do, it's her dog) so her dog is in a crate all day, I guess the dog has nothing else to do in the crate other than sleep.
My 12-week-old puppy falls right to asleep when i hold him or put him on my lap. He sleeps most of the time during the day, i'd say he sleeps about 15hrs, although i'm not too sure if he's awake at night when we're sleeping. But i'm sure it's normal and they need it!
