I dont know if its common but My friend used to breed and she didnt have the papers ready in time and told everyone who got a puppy if they want the papers to tell her and she would get them to them. Not everyone wanted them but the ones who did got them.
I dont know if Id trust everyone to get me the papers though. If yo udont feel right about then dont do it or pay so much for the dog and then the rest when he has the papers ready.
wow , are you saying he is wanting 150 for AKC papers ? it only cost 17 dollars to register with AKC. you will get the puppies papers. you fill them out and send them to AKC, and they send you back his registration certificate. get the registration numbers for the parents and contact AKC . find out if he has registered the litter. he should have done that by now and if he hasnt, i wouldnt get the pup. or at least not until you are sure that he can be registered. unless of course, you are not concerned about papers .
I typed this out...lemme know what you think...I blocked out their names, but in the letter, they are there.

I, _____________________, hereby give this female brindle and white pup to David and Donna Chopcinski as a replacement pup for breeding.
Lilo, whelped 8-27-05 and registered with AKC with a number RN09030702, was diagnosed with a wry bite, a recessive gene in which the jaw grows crooked. Under the advice of our vet she was spayed 3-30-06 and letter send to Sellers via certifed mail on October 24, 2006 of the condition of the dog and inability to ethically breed her.
AKC paperwork will be sent via certifed mail to David and Donna Chopcinski via certified mail in a few weeks, per our email, as the litter owners are moving at this time.
David and Donna agree to pay 150.00 cash for the cost of the goats milk for 8 wks for raising the puppy.
David and Donna hold Sellers harmless from any faults or conditions that may present itself in the future with the pup that may affect breeding in the future.
I dont trust them....When my mentor in Michigan told me they had new pups on their website, I called them and found out what they had....they didnt call me. Two weeks later, their website andf their name is gone and unsearchable anywhere on google.
we are not allowed to go to the house (moving supposedly and in disarray) and are meeting halfway.
I want that paperwork filled out (that I posted) so at least I have recourse with AKC if I have that information.
I told my husband, no address and AKC numbers, no exchange..everything I have will hold up in small claims court so far....IF I can find them.
Sketchy at best with all that you've said about the whole ordeal so far. Just make sure to CYA I guess, I'm not a huge trusting person anyway, I want it all up front, in my hand, and in writing......just use your best judgement and hope for the best.
Thing is you were owed a replacement. Part of replacement isnt to go through and add in things so you can still get more money from them. These are all things that are the normal part of raising a litter, the fact mom dried up sucks, but is not your place to pay for, just the fun addition of being a breeder.
traummamamma why not just take them a case of goat milk to replace what your pup drank... Then they cant complaine because that is what they are charging for. I dont know about anyone else but the care of my pups goes with being a breeder and everything should be in one set price. I think you are getting squeezed for some more money. I would just take them goat milk and watch there jaw drop. LOL
