That is one of the many reasons my dogs don't go outside without supervision.

It bums me out to have to say this, but in the past we are ALL guilty of having less then sensitivity when bad things have happened with mistakes/carelessness.

No fair to target someone in this particular post for saying what they feel and trying to understand the original post because I found it vague and confusing to be honest.






My worst mistake, would have to be when I first got Owen.
In the blink of an eye, my nephew who was visting for the weekend, for no other reason then just simply wanting to do it...tossed the puppy I had only had for a week fracturing nearly every toe in his tiny paw except 1. To this day it still givs me chills remembering the sounds, visualizing it and being powerless.

I never thought a family member was capable of something like that so out of anger (and keep in mind this was nearly 4 years ago) I banned him from visiting my house because he was old enough to know better then that. To me, there is no excuse for that down right nasty behavior.

What was even more shocking to me, was when I asked him immediately following, (seeing the puppy in discomfort, seeing me cry etc..) if he felt bad for doing it he out right told me no. And when I said how would you feel if a big person broke your leg? No response. That day really changed my relationship with that nephew when I saw that side of him....it gave me the chills.

My tiny toy poodle puppy had to wear a little splint wrapped in a cast to make sure the bones set correctly. Xrays, recasting as he grew and vet visits sure added up quickly and I will NEVER forget the sound he made that day. I knew his bones were broken and the whine that followed was something you would never want to hear.
All I did was cry because I felt like crap that this happened to my first puppy.

That is why I am so dead set against people letting their kids treat the dog like a toy and assuming that they won't do something to injure the dog just because they feel they know them well enough that something like that couldn't happen in their home.
Because it happened in my home. Kids as well as dogs, need to be socialized with constant supervision and taught how to respect and treat animals.

That hands down, was my worst mistake and I am not afraid to admit it, or take the heat for it because it is the truth and nothing anyone can say to me would make me think worse or feel worse then I have already done to myself.

i really dont like pottypads.they make the dog think it is ok to go in the house.

thats sad about the toy poodle.i have one ,but all my kids were taught they had to treat him(puffkin) nicly and handle him VERY GENTLY!!I would have felt terrible if that happened to my dog.plus , im sure the vet bills were out the roof.

dont know what my biggest mistake was, but i know i have made a few. we all have. thats a part of living and learning, and hopefully we have all learned from them. we all raise our pets in our own way.
maybe my biggest mistake was that i didnt get a frenchie until i was 49 years old. i cant believe that i missed out all these years, on having this wonderful breed in my life. wont make that mistake ever again. lol

riley, no disrespect was meant for you, simply disagreed with your observation. I thought it was harsh, considering the op said her dog was dead, and she had learned her lesson. Kinda sounded like pouring salt into wounds to me. As far as my rudeness to you, Im not certain the reference for that either. I think the worst advise I took was when Beagle was a puppy and biting too much. I was told (and was ignorant) to pop her under the chin or stick my finger in her mouth.

I regret doing that since to me it felt abusive. I am glad she isn't afraid of me now but I sure felt terrible.

gave jimmy to a bording place which is very far from my home

They lost him for a month in Pequannock NJ ( March 11th to April 9th 06)

luckily some one found him after a month ( many of you know the story )

My worst mistake -

Consenting to an operation to have a tumor removed from my dog's spleen. He didn't survive the post-op. Prior to the surgery Sammy was in excellent health and being a 13 year old dog he had the energy and life of a 10 year old. During a routine physical an ultra-sound detected the tumor in his spleen. It wasn't affecting his daily life or hurting his body so without careful consideration I took the vet's advice and went ahead with the surgery. I look back now and I see that even a simple surgery can be very risky as our beloved pets get older. I knew about that at the time but I was thnking that after he had the spleen removed he would maybe live even longer. I failed to look at the risk of post-op survival. Had he been in poor condition due to the tumor I would not have even hesitated to the surgery. But he was in great health and I made the biggest mistake in my life and I deserve to live with that guilt for the rest of my life. Forgive me, Sammy. I love you forever.
