Yesturday my dog jumped down from my bed (but he's puny so it's very high for him) and he screamed. I dont' think he's hurt but right after he fell he started going crazy. He ran really really fast around the house several times (he never does that) and then went to hide on the couch. He just sat there and stared around for 2 hrs and shivered. Now it's the next day and he's still not as active as before.
Do you think he's hurt or just traumatized over the fall??
You need to get him to the vet asap. He's shaking because he is in pain. It doesn't take much if they land wrong. One of my little female schnauzers was bounced off the bed by the other one playing and her back leg was broke in two places. So, please check it out, he may have broken his leg.
Another vote for the vet. Even if he just fractured his leg YOU need to know so you can keep him calm til its healed. The vet would also be able to give him some pain meds for a few days.
For future reference a shaking dog means the dog is not comfortable. It can mean something as simple as an upset stomach to a medical emergency. The yelp he did when he fell may mean a sprain or frature so just because his leg doesn't appear broken it can still be hurting him a lot.
I would have tooken him to a vet as soon as I could and had it looked at. I think that the puppy could have sprained his leg. sometimes puppys so that and they need to know that if that ever happens again that you will be there to help him. SO TAKE HIM TO THE VET PRONTO
take him to the vet right away! Also do you know about those pet steps? they are great for older dogs and puppies or kittens cos a bed is a long way to fall for a lil one.! even people fall wrong sometimes off the bed! I would also invest in pet steps and teach him to use them. that will be much safer for him up until he is older and bigger. If he is a small breed dog anyway he'll appreciate the steps later as well
Hi guys : ) thanx for your replies, but this post was from so long ago that I almost forgot about this incident! I didn't take him to the vet that night, luckily he went back to normal after a few hours! I guess he was just traumatized over the fall because that was his first time jumping off of a high place! But you guys are very right! I should definately take him to the emergency room if similar incidents happen again. Thank you guys!
