Oohh and in last weeks paper, there was a briard... (which to my eyes was very clearly a lab/poodle or golden/poodle mix).
To some extent I can understand trying to make the dogs more appealing by presenting them as an unusual purebred, but in the entire year of 2005, only 439 plott hounds were registered with the AKC, and only 272 briards! Statistically speaking, I be inclined to guess other breeds just because exactly how likely is it for someone in the Lee County area to have a briard? Yeah... not likely. Ahh well.... either way all the dogs are beautiful and skimming through the petfinder website for the lee county humane society made me seriously want another dog :P
I think thedog kind of look like the breeds they said. The "Lab mix" has a lab snout that could possilbly be a lab mix. And the "plott hound" had a tail like a Plott hound. And the "Siberian Husky" looks a lot like a Sibe. They do not not know the anmals true back round breed but at least they give you an idea of what the dog is.
I've been half seriously looking at cockers within about 12 hours of my home. I've found most of the mixes look nothing like cockers.. Maybe they say that so people will adopt a 'small' dog.
And the 'purebreds' often are rather uncocker like too.
There was a dog in the toronto humane society last year they called a mastiff. If was a fila brasario, or another breed many people aren't up on normally... If you knew nothing about dogs, and then adopted this one thinking mastiff, you might have you hands fuller than you knew.
The one listed as a lab mix looks more like GSD and greyhound to me. I don't see lab at all in that dog. Plott hounds are extensively registered with UKC, not so much AKC so you may have more than you think in your area. The one listed as a plott mix could be one. Plotts tend to resemble labs a little bit in the ears when they are mixed and they usually have brindle coloring. The husky mix looks like GSD in the head and wolf mix in the rear and tail to me.

yes, havent we all heard stories about how peoples dogs were put down after they had repeatedly called aksing if their "whatever" was there, because the shelter or pound people couldnt properly identify breeds ? it is pretty sad.
3/4 of the people who post on petfinders told me thunder was a golden retreiver mix ROFL. granted i dont know exactly what he is mixed with but he is as far from a golden retreiver as scout is lol.
they do their best but it is a shame that they are not more accurate with their guesses.
I have the same irratation with some of the people on Animal cops on animal planet. Any of the animal cop shows, whatever the state/city. They often say that the dog is this and that when it clearly clearly is not that breed. I just wanna reach in there and say "where did you get that idea??"
