The time of year matters....maybe..
The point being is..the GOOD breeders do not plan their breeding in order to have pups ready to go in time for "the holiday rush".
GOOD breeders do not choose by the time of year, they breed their dogs for certain lines, certain traits, and specific other conformational and health reasons....not every single female anytime she comes in so you can have a "merrier Christmas"...thats just sick.
I just hope their are enough loving foster homes and rescue people to take in all the pups that those who are looking to keep up with the market are pumping out for the almighty buck.

Now, back to the quality....feel free to post pics! You were asked several times to feel free to show us these 'exceptional' accomodations you have for your piles of puppies, in which you chose to decline....gee wonder why?
Then you go on about show people worried about competition....I highly doubt any show folks are out there shaking in their shoes worried you may one day decide to show your dogs.

Based on your posts, it is clear you breed for quantity, not quality. Feel free to show us different.

It was not my intention to offend anyone except for maybe pope, If I have, I am sorry. I can actually relate to your situation. I too have straggled with dyslexia as a child. It was back in the dark ages. No one knew any better, so I was misdiagnosed and was put in special ed classes as well with some really messed up kids. I was constantly picked on at school and was called names. Thing is I had 126 IQ when I was tested. I was no genius, but definitely somewhat above average. They didn’t know what to do with me. I was diagnosed with anything from mild autism to just being lazy. I got over it though as I got older, for the most part anyway. I still would be lost with out a spell checker though.

… how as a responsible breeder can you sell 20 pups in one month and feel confident that they are in the best possible homes?

Most of the year I probably would not, which is why I do not normally have more then one litter at a time. But during Christmas, I absolutely can. The demand is just that much better.

I don’t post for the benefits of those who disagree with me. I realize that they are a lost cause. I do it for those who come here to read and gain knowledge. I haven’t broken the rules of this board in any way. There is no reason I should be banned, unless a different and unpopular opinion is against an undocumented rule that is.

Why can’t you add another variable to the same equation and do everything you said AND have a litter at the time of year when you can have the widest selection of potential buyers to choose from?

Maybe I’ll post some pics of my pups when they get a little older. Pics of my house, kennel or adult dogs is not an option for the many reasons I already mentions.


And if any of you rescuers ever end up with one of my dogs, they all got chips, so feel free to send them back to me.

Just to keep the subject at the top of the list,

I do not sell puppies as gifts, period. If someone wants to get a puppy for a family member/friend I tell them to bring that person with them when they come to see the puppies. I DISAGREE when Juno said nobody wants a old puppy. I have had puppies and kept them for a few months just to see how they were going to turn out, once I have decided show/no show/pet only I then sell them with no PROBLEM.

I would honestly be afraid to purchase a puppy from most breeders who have more than one breed. I know its "just a me thing" but thats how I feel.

Each persons care and breeding ethics are just like the MANY different opinions when it comes to raising children, everyone has their own way....right or wrong.

Christmas should be every day. And getting a pup needs to be thought through. Including vet bills, quantity and quality of time ( and space) you can give you pet. He/she IS a part of the family. JUST LIKE A CHILD ! Animal shelters are overloaded with all kinds of pets. You never know when you'll get a diamond in the "ruff". We have a 11 yr old Shepard TESSA. We thot of bringing in a pup so she would have someone to nurture. All went well. TESSA was 8 yr old at the time. We rescued a GS from the pound 3 yrs ago- she sadly passed on in May. She was a family of 9 pups that some irresponsible person dumped. It was either the shelter come and get them or it was the canal (we live in the Keys) for them- they were only 5 weeks old. The owner gave the mom away- kept the father and took off to the north. All the pups were adopted out within 2 months of each other. Each yr we'd get together for birthdays. We miss GABBY HAZE terribly.
Please don't be selfish- there are plenty of untold stories at the shelters !

IMO you have to earn respect and some members are chastised because of the terrible way they breed or conduct themselves. It is really hard to be nice to some of the idiots that are out there. Repect is given to more people then not on this board.

Point well taken Wileyblaze. I am new here. Never did a forum before- of what I read, I guess you are right. But I like to respond in a positive way- I have to take the brunt of nasty, inconsiderates 8-5 M-F ( clerks office). I love animals, especially Germans Sheps.

Hey I know this is not the place to ask... but after I do an EDIT that little blockt doesn't come off under my name on the left. How come?

As she claims she is willing to show pups pics only....why not the parents (the ones that make the show breeders jealous) and the set up, whelping and puppy areas all these dogs are kept in.....
She isnt apparently willing to actually back up claims....red flag.

I agree very much that Christmas puppies should never exist. Pets of any sort should never be given out as a gift at any time of the year. However, if they ever were given as a gift then the person on the recieving end should be notified of the idea. The person should aslo be around to pick out the creature(dog, cat, etc.) and be willing to devote themselves 100% to this animal.


So in short animals for gifts are bad ideas but if they are given the person recieving should be aware of everything and also agree to wanting this animal and care for it like a family member.


But thats only my opinion.

I think breeding dogs for Christmas money so you can have a 'merry christmas' is horrible and you shouldn't be breeding. I would be willing to wait for a couple of years for a good, well-bred dog from a reputable breeder which is what I plan to do if I can't find my particular breed preferance in shelters or rescues within the next 5 to 10 years.

I plan of getting another dog around Christmas. I already picked the puppy and gave a deposit. It will be ready about a week before christmas which is when I will be picking it up. I was looking for a dog for a long time. I wasn’t about to pass it by just because of Christmas. I will however tell my kids it is their big gift. They will still get other gifts, but this is the one all three were asking for and are most exited about. I know they will probably lose some of their enthusiasm after awhile, but that is to be expected. No matter what, this pup will be here to stay.

I got a puppy as a gift to my parents few years ago. It worked out great. Their dog of 14 years has just past away and my mom took it really hard. She needed something to fill in the void left in her heart. I did however talked about it with her before hand and made sure she was ready for another dog. My parents still have this dog and love it to death. I didn’t mean to do it as a Christmas gift. It just worked out this way. I would have given them a dog regardless of the time of year. It can and does work.

I’ll bet that 90% of the people who bashed you never had a single litter and have no idea what it takes to breed and sale dogs other then the regurgitated crap that is floating around the net. Those who do, worry about losing face and will never admit that they agree with you or to do what you do.

And what ever you do, DO NOT post any identifying info. You will literally be inviting trouble to your home if you do that.

I've been breeding dogs for over thirty years. I've never had decrease or increase in sales at certain times of the year. I've never had more then two litters on the ground at any one time. Not sure what regurgitated crap you see floating around the internet, but there is a lot of useful things to learn, if you're willing. Juno isn't willing, so be it.

I'm never worried about losing any face, especially on a forum. I've posted pictures of my dogs, nobody has bashed me for it, nobody has showed up to my property and stolen anything, or beaten me and my husband up, or taken any of my dogs.

Posting a picture of a DOG is not identifying information, especially one as cookie cutter as the breed this person is claiming to have. You people really need to get out of your shells, your neighbours have a better chance of doing anything to you than someone who saw a picture of a dog on a forum. Get over it, sheesh.

Hey - I'm thinking of adopting a child... thought that since it's Christmas I'd just wrap the kid up and give him to Hubby as a gift... what do you think????

I think people who could handle a Christmas puppy know who they are. Even if Christmas is a holiday you celebrate, not everyone has a tightly scheduled timetable that involves traveling, hosting, and dashing around. Low-key holidays can be lovely too, and hospitable for a new pet. Sometimes late December coincides with the availability of the litter you've been waiting on. Sometimes the timing is influenced (probably more than it should be, but that'd be another thread) by the longing that can follow the death of another dog, and it can happen to be around the holidays.

The people who would let a new puppy get lost in the shuffle of holiday mania probably wouldn't do that great at other times of the year either. But I do agree that if you live in a cold-weather climate, it's the hardest of the seasons to initiate housebreaking. That's a good enough reason right there to go either earlier or later.

Also, what many non-breeders may not be thinking about concerning JUNO. JUNO REALLY REALLY DOESN'T GET TO PICK WHEN THE PUPPIES ARRIVE, OR WHEN, OR WHAT DOG GOES IN TO SEASON.

That is mother nature. When your dogs go in to season, you don't get to say 'this isn't the right time I want it to be last month or next month'. This was just LUCK, good or bad.

The other thing is that girl dogs cycle together. If you have 3 breeding age girls in season in the same few weeks, what do you do? You could choose to breed one of the 3, and it may not get pregnant, then you don't have any puppies.

Or you may breed two and neither become preganant and then you still have no puppies. YOu could breed 3 and only have 1 get pregnant...... or all three could have puppies. BREEDERS can choose what dogs are bred, but they don't determine who actually becomes preganant.

The other thing with large breed dogs is that they only come in to season every 9-12 months, so if you do purposely skip a girl-- then you are likely waiting another YEAR for the possiblity of her having puppies. It is NOT like the people who have small breed dogs that can have 2-3 OPPORTUNITIES for each girl to be bred through a year. ONE SHOT is what you get.

As far as Christmas puppies, it depends on the person and the family. I wouldn't let some one have a puppy as a suprise, BUT........

IF the person purchasing the dog is LIVING IN THE HOME like a parent or a husband/wife/boyfriend, and THEY KNOW THEY MAY BE RESPONISIBLE for the dog if the person doesn't want to take care of it.... what is the problem? The puppy still has some one to take care of it PERMANENTLY.

My husband got me a very nice, very expensive puppy for my Christmas presant 2 years ago--- the best gift I ever had by far.... I couldn't think of anything better to get me-- other than a horse.

Don't bother to respond with nasty comments directed at me, beause I won't see it. I dont' have time to deal with the rude people on here.

I sure would, if it meant I'd be purchasing a healthy, happy, responsibly bred dog. And, if you're looking to buy a rare breed, sometimes it can take well over two years to find a reputable breeder. Waiting can be worth it.

I would never buy a puppy, or adult dog for that matter, at Christmas. People are usually much busier at Christmas than another time of year, which means there will be less time to teach and care for the dog. Christmas can be quite hectic, and that is very hard for a dog who is already scared about being in a new environment. Also, buying someone, or having someone buy you, a dog for Christmas usually means it's a surprise. Dogs shouldn't be surprises.

Ask anyone who knows me how long I waited to get Addie. That's right folks 2 years. Boy I am glad I waited.
