I just read my copy today. In the letters page there was a section with pro and con opinions about Cesar Milan. Guess who wrote the pro letter? Jill Deringer. The same woman, I think, who killed a german shepherd during a training session, by alpha rolling it while muzzled and sitting on it for an hour, poking it. Guess she is back at training dogs like this and has no remorse. I am really disgusted. why didn't Dog Fancy make a reference to this????????
I emailed the "bark back" section of Dog Fancy last night. I think they have every right to print whatever they want, but when someone like that writes in, they should make a reference to what this person has done! I had wondered what happened to this woman, and here she is, with absolutely no remorse and actually promoting these techniques still!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I followed this story really closely and it made me sick. where is the logic? How is taking a dog that already has known aggressive problems, and sitting on it and hitting it repeatedly going to make the problem better??!! It's mind-boggling that people think this could possibly work, and I would love Jill Deringer to explain how doing this decreases aggression in a dog. I really thought after she killed that poor dog she'd have a change of heart. I also heard she was hired as a trainer at another petco in florida!! Unbelievable.
I wouldn't lie to you guys, I like alot of Ceasar's techniques... I have even been to a seminar of his, but I do know of that horrid Deringer lady... what a mess... It was a nice little GSD named Ringo I believe...
Here is more info I found about it... don't know if the links work...
Abuser's Name: Jill Deringer (dog trainer for PetCo)
Crime/abuse: "Exorcism"/training that involved jabbing at the dog's abdomen with her finger for over an hour to the point of internal bleeding, while restricting breathing causing overheating and collapse. Inducing shock in a cold water bath. The puppy (18 months) arrived at the emergency vet blind and "beyond repair."
Date of crime: July 17 2006 ("earlier this week" (dated July 18 )
Explanation: None, but she does tell WPTV (FL) that she intends to continue "treating" dogs. The owners say she called it an "exorcism", and while the 18 month old german shepherd was muzzled with a greyhound muzzle, she violently poked at its abdomen while holding it down for over an hour. This caused internal bleeding. When the dog was clearly overheated and entirely limp, she then suggested that they submerge it in a cold water tub. This, of course, induced severe shock. The dog was blind by the time it made it to the emergency vet clinic, and subsquently euthanized.
Animal abuse is horrific, but in the name of "helping" the pet? This isn't training, it's a deranged and misinformed woman abusing animals. It scares the hell out of me that she's threatening to continue this sort of "training."
i do like cesaer also. yes a lot of his training techniques are old school but they do work. i wouldnt recommend them for all dogs as not all dogs are the same. in order to train any dog you need to understand that dog and use what works best for them. it may include some of ceasers training methods and it may not. dogs are not one size fits all and neither should training methods be.
as for that woman jill ..... what she did was outright abuse, not training. there is nothing in what she did that would have any positive outcome .... obviously.
I absolutely hate everything cesar milan stands for. He is not a trainer. almost everything he does if it was someone else doing it they'd be charged with animal abuse. He's an illegal alien, and I think people should do his "training methods" on him.
he is no such thing as a "dog whisperer" The name Horse whisperer, which was the original, means that you do training methods that do not in any way hurt the animal. Hence the "WHISPERER" in the name. I think he is a poor excuse for a trainer, and I've gone as far as telling dog fancey I would not be renewing my subscription if I see another article glorifying someone like him. If he was here he would be turned in daily for abuse and if I ever saw anyone hang ANY of my dogs till they were choking or unconsious, they would find themselves being sued for everything they had!!
