Alright so we're leaving tomorrow for a wek long vacation in Florida. Sarah will be staying home alone. I bought her an automatic feeder for her food, but couldn't find one for her water. I was thinking about disinfecting the kitchen sink and then filling it for her. My FIL will be able to stop by maybe twice while we are gone, to check on her. So my question is, will the water in the sink be alright? it'll be refilled at least twice, I just worry about her lol. I wanted to get her a cat door so she could be fed and watered outside by our neighbor like Buddy will be, but I just didn't plan it very well lol.
I don't know about the sink, she may not know where or remember where the water would be, even if you show her. Plus She would get into a habbit of drinking from there and when you dont want her to, she would.
I know they sell these at walmart (or atleast here they do). All you get is a big water bottle and screw it to the bottom thingy of it and it lets out water when it needs to. I know i've seen atomatic water dipensers at PetsMart, again that may just be here but I was considering getting one for my cats and dogs but decided not to.
yep, Sarah is a cat lol sorry I left that out. I looked all over in walmart for those and couldn't find them, heck I couldn't even find the auto feeder, had to go to tractor supply for that, and their water things are just to big for something I only need for the weekend.
do you trust your neighbour enough to give them a key to your place and maybe ask them to drop in once a day or something? that's what my neighbour does. she used to pay me and my sis when we were younger to spend time with the kitty while they were away. maybe ask them if you feel comfortable and then bring them back a small token from your trip, like candy or something.
I don't trust anyone in my home while I'm not around, unless they're family. My FIL will stop by, I'm just wondering about how long a sink, bowl, or bowls of water would last. I'd hate for her to have to go all day without something to drink.
becka, do you have like a medium sized Pyrex mixing bowl? or maybe even like an 8x8 glass brownie dish? I have used both in a pinch for puppies/kittens, they hold alot of water and the dishes are too heavy for them to tip over. If your FIL is gaoing to stop by, he can always refill it as needed. I have also seen automatic waterers that use a 2 litre bottle that drains into the dish depending on the water level, however, I can't think of where I saw it. Have fun in FL!
Maybe set out more than one bowl of water. Bigger bowls in a few rooms? If a cat is thirsty enough, it will seek it out wherever it can find it.
This sounds bad, but maybe do some cleaning in your bathrooms.. I.E. - the toilet, do some scrubbing. Then leave the lids up, for last resort. (Wow, at suggesting an animal drink out of the toilet.. *shakes head*) Better than nothing, though.. in case all the bowls would managed to get knocked over or something.. you just never know.
