It depends on what your looking for. Big, small, med, very active, kinda calm, long hair, no hair, short hair.
We tend to stick with bully looking breeds, Bostons, pugs, english bull dogs, ect. They snore, snort, fart, and are quite anoying but its just more to love. If we had a big yard and a bigger house we would have a malamute, dane, or rotty. Maby even a pitty or a mastiff.
it all depends on how you live, and what your looking for.
Labrador retrievers are by far the best family dogs ever created by man or god.
there is a good reason why labs are the number one selling dogs in the USA for the last 15 years. No other breed come even close to its popularity. Fads don't last that long. there is definitely a good reason for that. You can't go wrong with a lab.
Chis are great dogs but agin it depends on what you are looking for, if you have kids its probly not the best dog. they are so small they can be hurt easly.
Id start by looking at a list of dogs, www.puppyfind.com has a good list, look at each breed, read what it says and write down the ones you like. Then talk to breeders, owners, and read more about each breed. Little by little your list will go from 30 to just 1. When we first started looking we had a long list but after sitting down with hubby for about 15 mns we cut it in half. Then we kept changing breeds. We started with yorkies, chis, poms, and ended with a pug.
just take your time and try to find out as much as you can. You dont want a dog that you think is just so cute but that you cant handle, or that does not fit into your life style.
you should get a brittany spaniel they are the most best behaved animals they are so good. they are ative, friendly, you acn do any thing to them and they will not bite they arethe most well behaved animals ever they are great with kids of all ages too.
When I was a little girl, my family had a Chi, his name was Tinker, he was very sweet, but we also had a border collie, which was more my type of dog, and a poodle/cocker mix. So if your looking for a little dog, what about checking out this site: http://www.akc.org/breeds/toy_group.cfm
Make sure you will have time for a pup. They take alot of time and training. They arent born potty broke and knowing how to behave. Do plenty of research on the breed before deciding to get one. Are you wanting to go to a breeder or adopt from a shelter?
Be sure to get to know the breeder before choosing them, lots of questions. Meet their dogs, ask about health guarantees, etc.
Though with you being a college student, you may want to wait to get a pup until your schedule eases up, if you are set on it....consider an adult who is already housebroken, and has some training already and is out of the puppy stage.
Shelters are a good place to go, I see them in there all the time needing homes.
If yo uwant a small dog and sence you dont have kids im sure a Chi would be a good pick. You cant have pets in your dorm?? I though they were changing that at most places, I think they started alowing them here last year and others were going to change it as well.
If your going to have alot of people over Id look into a more sturdy dog, maby a boston???? I have a boston and everyone we know loves him, we had a poll on who was the cutest dog they knew and everyone picked rocky even over there own dogs. He is such a great dog.
If you like longer hair there are yorkies, A lady I know has one she is so sweet and calm. They are small like a chi.
