gotten tied up at all. They spent several days trying, and I did notice that he made contact, as well as penetration on several occasions, but never formed the 'knot'. I have gotten several different answers to my questions,
First off, do they have to get tied up? Can she be pregnant if he didn't form the knot?
Second, how long do they stay tied up? I've been told just 30 minutes at the most, to a few hours?
how would she know that before? i dont get it... its not like you can predict or know if your dog will tie or just have slip matings.... or if she'll get pregnant by loose tying.....and all dogs are different and tie last from different times....
To the OP: yes the female can get pregnant from loose ties... yes they sometimes can last from 30-about 1 hr

just wanted some info. Never had a problem with having a dog not form a knot before. Don't understand why the people who ask simple questions on here, trying to get better understanding of their pets, get attacked.
ps. thanks dogsrmylife.

Pistol....we don't understand why people have to breed dogs willy nilly, trying to either make a name for themselves, or make a few bucks. Why they can't just do it for the reason of something worthwhile. That's why we get that way.
I don't know your breeding practices, so that's not to you, unless of course, it does apply.
Well, whatever my 'breeding practices' are, how am I supposed to learn anything without asking questions? I think if someone is wanting to become a reliable breeder, they should be able to ask 'dumb' questions without fear of being verbally abused.
Uh, I thought you said your proudly bred mixed breeds were expecting in January?
Now you don't even know if she is pregnant? You are a mess.
You are sitting at a computer filled with endless knowledge, why don't you put it and your brain to good use instead wasting all your time, hanging your hopes on the start to a completely ludicrous backyard breeding program.
i dont think that the dogs have to "tie up" they just need to meet and then a vet visit will let you become clear if the bitch is pregnant or not, when a scan is done!
I think that people have the right to ask questions on here, it is, after all, here for people that have more information than others to share and compare events! This is not a place where people need to hurl abuse at each other because somebody doesn't know if "tieing up" is neccessary for a pregnancy!
If you do not know about the full effects of "tieing up" maybe you could visit the vets or a reputiable breeder and ask them, if they are good breeders of pedigree's they will know weather "tyeing up" is important! I would advise you to research before you breed, or you bitch could suffer the concequences of your unknowing! Internet, vets or breeders will all be helpful, but information is the key to success!
Good Luck and inform us of any future events and if pups are due!
