I live in Hawaii and noticed the cost of purchasing a puppy from a reputable breeder in Hawaii is approximately 3 to 4 times more than the mainland USA. For example, a Labrador Retriever and a Boxer coats anywhere from $1100 to $1300 while breeders who posts same puppies for sale on this website costs anywhere from $250 to $450.
How about other people around this forum,....how much did you folks pay for your pets?
rocky my boston was free. We are buying a pug (we pick him up on the 29th) and he is $495. I dont know if thats alot to pay for a puppy, But he seems to be everything we are looking for and I love the breeder, she is sweet and we talk about everything from her pugs to my new tattoo.
Where did you see labrador puppies for $250? They must be from very very last puppy mill or a mutt that is large and black etc. From a reputable breeder out of healthy parents you have to pay at least 800-1000 for a pet anywhere in US. The other issue is that Hawaii have quarantine and it is difficult to import a puppy, so maybe that is why they are a little more expensive, but not 3 or 4 times
The price range are from the "dogs for sale" section on the Dog Menu. I agree with many of you regarding the price vs quality of the pups and the quarantine laws in Hawaii. It is very tough to buy/import puppies to Hawaii, therefore the breeders here has us by our balls. Lack of competetion drives up the price.
I just wanted to see what others paid for their pets in what state.
If you see a lab that cheap it is probably not from the best of breeders, just because you see labs for 250-450 doesn't mean they are from reputable breeders. I've seen that labs from reputable breeders cost from $600+ and usually its the plus but I've seen some as low as $600 for pet.
I have several dogs which varied in price from $500 up to a few $1,000 for pups and adults, which are American Pit Bull Terriers. Generally I pay between $500-1500 but have gone higher and have gone less by trade which only cost transport/shipping for both parties.
I'm not sure why they may be more there, but there was a kennel there that I had communicated with through email and their pups were $600-800.
Voodoo, I'm happy to see that your are thinking about getting another dog. Best wishes to you.
I really wouldn't think about the price if it was 100.00 vs 1500.00. I wouldn't trust the price to represent that they are a good responsible breeder.
What I'm trying to say that you need to visit the breeders accomidations. See for yourself what this breeder is adding to the pet population, Good or Bad. I know of many rotten breeders that are charging the highest dollar, and then I know of the most responsible breeders that are affordable.
I have to say this, but you can also check out the animal shelters, something to think about. There are puppies there also.
WileyBlaze, thanks for your kind thoughts. I just purchased a yellow lab puppy with AKC papers for $1300. I liked the way she interrogated and interviewed me to determine if I would be suitable to have a lab. She declines to sell to those she feels would not take care of her babies. A few days after I purchased she called to check on how things were going. I like that. She offered me to come to her home and see the parents of my puppy and the conditions of her place. She was very legit. For my second dog I will be going to the Hawaiian Humane Society and adopt.
