OK I'm really getting frustrated. Bluey my min pin is 3 months old now. Im trying to litter box train him with potty pads in the box. I started out with the litter box in his crate at nite, and moving the box to the back door in the day. He would use it fine during the nite. I was told I was doing it wrong and confusing him having it in two different spots. So now I put his crate by the backdoor, and His litter box is outside of crate by backdoor. At nite I leave his crate door open and I gate off the kitchen area, so he has straight path to his potty box. I keep him in kitchen area also when I'm not able to watch him. Today I let him into the living room to play, he started sniffing around, I took him to potty box. He jumped out and ran back into living room and pottied on carpet. Please let me know what I am doing wrong and if this box thing works. I'm now being told that I'm teaching the dog that it is ok to go in the house, Take him outside.
Your dog is three months old. It is just a baby. Dogs aren't reliable at that age. It's soley on you to take the dog to potty once an hour.
I had a litterbox trained dog, I think it took longer to teach than outside would have. Few people want you your dog and their litterbox to visit as well..
I think it's a matter of your persistence if the dog when it grows up goes in the box or elsewhere in the house, but personally the litterbox was a big hassle involving bums often over the edge if it wasn't clean enough for her satisfaction *shrug*
Glad you took it out of the crate though. You don't want your dogs den to also be the potty spot, unless its really really large.
Well he is so small and not much fur, and it gets very cold in winter in Michigan. My other min pin hated going outside in the winter. And I found him going downstairs in the basement to go potty alot. I just thought it would be easier and warmer for us both. Maybe I'm wrong.
