I was gone today for four hours and when I got home my dog (a pomeranian poodle mix) was limping. She is not putting any weight at all on her right hind leg. She was excited to see me and kept trying to jump up on me like she usually does but she would just fall down. I feel horrible. Its midnight. I do not know what to do. She is only 2 years old. I checked her paw and did not see anything wrong. Any advice, please?
it could be a wide range of things from a simple sprain, to a torn ligament, to a fracture. if she is no better after being rested all night i would take her in to your vet this morning. after today, your only other option for vet care over a holiday weekend will be an emergency clinic as most vets will not be open again until tuesday.
Hind leg limping makes me think of Patellas. Not sure about the mix of dog that you have, but many of the toy breeds have varying degrees of problems with Luxating Patellas. From what I understand, it translates to something to the effect of loose knee caps.
I trust by now that you have taken the dog into the vets. Please let us know what they say.
The vet said that it is badly sprained but he cannot do anything about it. Is this true? He did not even give anything for pain. I have had many sprained ankles and they are highly painful. All she is doing is sleeping. Is there something I can do myself?
When I took her out to potty this morning she was starting to put a little weight on it every now and again so I know its better than it was last night. I still feel like should be something I can do.
well I had a dog that sprained her paw and the vet told me that we can't do anything about it and he didn't give her anything for it and it made me fustrated so I looked on the internet and I fould a website that if it's swolen to soke the dogs paw in epsoms salt. I tryed it and it seemed to make her feel better and she is doing better now and I think that it helped her a lot and she didn't seem to be in too much pain once I started to do that.
